In this role, you'll:
- Work as part of a well-regarded team supporting safe, reliable and resilient rail operations across the Country Regional Network (CRN).
- Provide technical stewardship and advice for the systems, technologies and facilities that support Network Control capability.
- Develop and maintain an informed view of system performance, reliability, operational risks, dependencies and future capability needs.
- Work closely with operators, suppliers, maintainers and specialists to identify issues, improve performance and support operational outcomes.
- Contribute to significant Network Control capability programs, including control centre, resilience, disaster recovery and operational technology initiatives.
- Translate operational requirements into technical outcomes and technical issues into clear business and operational impacts.
- Support informed decision-making by providing trusted technical advice, analysis and recommendations.
- This permanent role is based in Newcastle and operates under TfNSW's hybrid working arrangements. Regular engagement with operational stakeholders, suppliers and Network Control facilities forms an important part of the role, together with occasional intrastate travel.
About you
- You have experience supporting, maintaining, integrating, assuring or managing mission-critical operational systems and understand the importance of reliability, resilience and operational continuity.
- You may come from rail, transport, signalling, operational technology, utilities, ports, mining, defence or other complex operational environments where system availability and operational consequences matter.
- You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can investigate technical issues while understanding their operational impacts.
- You are comfortable working with suppliers, maintainers and technical specialists and can build productive relationships while constructively challenging recommendations where required.
- You can explain complex technical matters in plain English and effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You are proactive and capable of working independently within agreed priorities, taking ownership of issues, developing recommendations and working collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
- Experience with Network Control systems, train management systems, signalling interfaces, operational technology environments, SCADA systems or other critical control systems will be highly regarded.
- You hold an Engineering degree or equivalent qualification and a current Australian driver's licence.
