Job Description - Personal Line Underwriter

Origin Group is seeking an experienced and client -focused Personal Lines Underwriter to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full underwriting and administration process for personal lines insurance business, including quotations, new business, policy amendments, renewals, cancellations, and client servicing.

This role requires a highly organised individual with strong technical insurance knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to clients and advisors.


Key Responsibilities

Underwriting and Quotations

  • Obtain quotations from insurers or prepare quotations in accordance with binder agreements.
  • Process quotations for:
    • Existing clients requiring amendments or additions.
    • New business opportunities.
    • Rebroke business.
  • Provide quotations and recommendations to clients and advisors.
  • Assist and guide Junior Underwriters where required.

New Business Administration

  • Process and issue new policies accurately on relevant systems.
  • Request policy issuance from insurers where applicable and verify accuracy upon receipt.
  • Prepare and distribute closing documentation to clients.
  • Confirm premium amounts and deduction dates.
  • Process broker appointments in line with company procedures.

Policy Maintenance and Amendments

  • Attend to policy amendments requested by clients, advisors, or insurers.
  • Implement changes arising from renewal discussions.
  • Issue confirmations of insurance cover.
  • Distribute updated policy schedules and supporting documentation.

Premium and Cancellation Management

  • Manage unpaid premiums in accordance with company procedures.
  • Process policy cancellations and communicate outcomes to clients and advisors.
  • Ensure all cancellations are accurately documented and confirmed.

Client and Advisor Support

  • Provide professional assistance with insurance -related queries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, advisors, and insurers.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.

Workflow and Task Management

  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Create, update, monitor, and finalise tasks within workflow systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all client interactions and actions taken.
  • Ensure all service level agreements and turnaround times are met.

Team Support

  • Mentor and support Junior Underwriters when required.
  • Contribute to training and development initiatives within the team.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and duties within the scope of the role.



Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4).
  • RE5 Qualification (Essential).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the Short -Term Insurance industry.
  • Proven experience in Personal Lines Underwriting.
  • Sound knowledge of short -term insurance products, policy administration, and underwriting principles.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong underwriting and risk assessment skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective problem -solving and decision -making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in insurance systems and Microsoft Office applications.
