Take the Lead on Quality in a High-Performance
Engineering Environment
Are you an experienced Quality Control professional with
strong expertise in fabrication, welding, NDT and manufacturing quality?
SQ1 Recruitment is partnering with an established
engineering organisation operating within the mineral processing and mining
equipment sector to appoint an experienced QC Manager. This is a
senior, hands-on quality leadership role responsible for ensuring manufactured
products, fabricated components, assemblies and project deliverables
consistently meet stringent customer, engineering and international quality
standards.
Reporting to the Contracts Director, you will lead
the QC function, oversee inspections and testing throughout the manufacturing
process, manage non-conformances and corrective actions, coordinate customer
inspections and FATs, and champion continuous improvement across manufacturing
and project execution.
This opportunity will suit a technically strong QC
professional who understands the realities of an engineering workshop and can
confidently engage with production teams, engineers, suppliers, customers and
third-party inspectors.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management
- Develop,
implement and continuously improve quality control procedures and
inspection processes.
- Ensure
compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and
applicable quality standards.
- Maintain
quality procedures, inspection records, reports and supporting
documentation.
- Drive
continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and project
execution.
- Monitor
quality performance, including defects, rework, customer complaints and
quality-related costs.
Inspection, Testing & Manufacturing Quality
- Oversee
incoming, in-process and final inspections.
- Ensure
inspection and testing activities are completed in accordance with
approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Verify
compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, applicable
codes and standards.
- Oversee
quality requirements relating to welding, fabrication, machining,
assembly and pressure equipment.
- Ensure
measuring and testing equipment is appropriately calibrated and
maintained.
- Maintain
effective material identification and traceability throughout
manufacturing.
Welding & NDT Quality
- Provide
technical oversight relating to welding procedures and qualifications,
including WPS, PQR and WPQ.
- Ensure
relevant NDT activities are performed and evaluated in accordance with
applicable requirements.
- Apply
knowledge of relevant pressure equipment, piping, welding and fabrication
codes and standards.
Non-Conformance & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate
quality issues and non-conformances.
- Lead
structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
- Implement
and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Verify
the effectiveness of corrective actions and identify opportunities to
prevent recurrence.
- Drive
measurable improvements in first-pass acceptance, rework and overall
quality performance.
Team Leadership
- Lead,
mentor and develop the Quality Control team.
- Allocate
inspection resources effectively across manufacturing and project
activities.
- Conduct
performance evaluations and identify training and development
requirements.
- Build
a culture centred on quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
Supplier Quality
- Monitor
and evaluate supplier quality performance.
- Participate
in supplier qualification and evaluation processes.
- Review
supplier inspection documentation, certificates and quality records.
- Support
supplier audits when required.
Customer & Project Quality
- Liaise
professionally with customers, consultants, inspectors and third-party
inspection agencies.
- Coordinate
customer inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
- Ensure
project quality documentation is complete, accurate and submitted within
required timelines.
- Support
project teams through manufacturing and commissioning phases.
Compliance, Audits & Reporting
- Ensure
compliance with applicable ISO standards, customer specifications,
statutory requirements and industry regulations.
- Plan
and participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Maintain
audit records and ensure findings are closed within agreed timelines.
- Prepare
and present quality KPIs and performance reports to senior management.
- Analyse
trends and recommend practical quality and cost-improvement initiatives.

A competitive package is available, dependent on experience

- R1 000 000 CTC per annum (Negotiable, depending on experience)
+ R1,000
monthly cellphone allowance + Company Performance-based
