Location: Kariega (Uitenhage) area, Eastern Cape 



Start Date: 1 August 2026


 


Reports to: Ellepot Facility Manager

NatCarbon Africa seeks a Quality Controller at or Ellepot Facility in the Nursery Department for the large-scale Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.


 


With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom (Portulacaria afra) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.


 


Position Summary: 


 


To perform hands-on quality inspections on all produced Ellepots and incoming raw materials, support the quality function, conduct sample testing and maintain accurate records for traceability and compliance.


 


 


Roles and Responsibilities: 


 



  • Visual and physical inspection of Ellepots for defects and specification compliance.

  • Perform incoming quality inspections and sample testing on batches of raw materials; record results and link them to traceability records.

  • Approve or reject raw materials and finished products for use/production.

  • Take reasonable care for own health and safety and that of others; follow safe sampling and testing procedures, use required PPE and report hazards immediately.

  • Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues.

  • Conduct daily quality checks and basic testing.

  • Train production staff on quality and traceability requirements.

  • Maintain quality records and support compliance with project specifications and OHS requirements.

  • Some travel within the Eastern and Western Cape may be required, including to remote locations, with occasional weekend or holiday work to accommodate schedules.

Skills: 


 



  • Strong attention to detail and analytical record-keeping skills.


 


Qualifications: 


 



  • Grade 12.


 


Knowledge and Experience: 


 



  • Minimum 1 - 2 years’ quality/inspection experience in manufacturing.


 


Performance Areas:


 



  • Accurate and timely defect identification (raw materials and finished Ellepots).

  • High quality compliance rate and reduced rejects.

  • Reliable traceability records for materials and products.


 


Working Conditions


 



  • Primarily on the production floor.

  • Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations.

  • Travel may on occasion cross weekends and holidays to accommodate schedules.

  • Work hours may be irregular.
