Job Description - Content & Brand Designer (Socials & Executive Assets)

Content & Brand Designer (Socials & Executive Assets)

Department: Growth & Creative Marketing

Reports To: Creative Director / Head of Marketing

Employment Type: Full-Time Independent Contractor

Location: Remote (Open to top-tier talent in South Africa)

Working Hours: U.S. Business Hours Overlap Required

  • Application Requirement: A portfolio showcasing social content, typography, data visualization/graphics, and presentation decks is mandatory.

Opportunity Overview

We are looking for a proactive, design-driven Content & Brand Designer who understands both clean visual design and modern social media execution.

This is a versatile, startup-style role for someone who goes beyond just doing "what they are asked." You will take raw data, tight briefs, statistical insights, and brand assets, transforming them into crisp, easy-to-digest editorial graphics, social posts, and high-stakes presentation decks.

You should be a "startup generalist" at heart—someone who cares deeply about brand identity, understands modern content consumption habits (how people read, scroll, and engage on platforms like X/Twitter and LinkedIn), and is comfortable stepping in to schedule, post, and support social strategy when needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Graphic Design & Asset Creation (Decks, Data & Editorial)

  • Presentation Decks: Design and format polished, executive-ready pitch decks, client presentations, and internal slide decks with strong layout hierarchy, typography, and visual flow.

  • Data Visualization & Editorial Graphics: Turn tight briefs, percentages, complex data points, and quotes into clean, visually engaging infographics and editorial graphics.

  • Static Creative: Execute high-quality static assets, image overlays, and brand collateral—mastering font pairing, kerning, leading, white space, and color harmony.

  • Brand Guardian: Maintain total visual consistency across all creative outputs, ensuring visual identity is respected and elevated.

2. Social Strategy, Content & Execution

  • Platform-Native Design: Design graphics specifically tailored to how audiences consume content on modern feeds (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram)—focusing on quick readability, visual hooks, and thumb-stopping layouts.

  • Social Posting & Support: Help schedule and publish static content, text updates, and visual posts directly to platforms (including X/Twitter), stepping in to keep the social engine running smoothly.

  • Proactive Content Iteration: Stay attuned to modern social trends, identifying gaps in the content feed and proactively proposing visual ideas rather than waiting for a rigid brief.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Required Experience & Core Skills

  • Core Competencies (Explicit Requirement): Hands-on, professional expertise in both Graphic Design and Content Creation as primary skill sets.

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in graphic design, content creation, or visual social media marketing.

  • Mandatory Portfolio: Must present a strong portfolio featuring:

    • Clean presentation deck design.

    • Editorial graphics, infographics, or data/text overlays.

    • Platform-native social media content (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).

  • Design Fundamentals: Strong mastery of typography, layout composition, spatial awareness, color theory, and visual hierarchy.

  • Software Proficiency: Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Figma, and presentation tools (Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint, or Canva).

  • Startup Mindset: High agency and adaptability. Comfortable wearing multiple hats, working in a fast-paced environment, and going above and beyond to solve creative problems.

  • Communication & English: Excellent written and spoken English skills to handle text overlays, copy formatting, and internal collaboration.

Preferred Attributes & Mindset

  • Very High Curiosity (Non-Negotiable): An intrinsically inquisitive mindset—constantly exploring new ideas, asking thoughtful questions, and digging deeper into why things work.

  • Self-Sufficient Problem Solver: A resourceful self-starter who asks great questions and proactively finds solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do.

  • Tech Sector Knowledge & Enthusiasm: Genuine enthusiasm for technology, paired with a solid grasp of tech and tech-adjacent sectors—particularly what is happening at the frontier of innovation.

  • Pragmatic AI Tooling Adoption: An understanding of AI tools (or a strong willingness to adopt them) purely to work faster and smarter day-to-day (not for generating core brand assets or final imagery).

  • Social Growth Mechanics: An understanding of growth mechanics and performance drivers from a social media perspective.

  • Startup Experience: Experience working in a remote, fast-moving startup environment.

  • Platform Familiarity: Familiarity with social media management and scheduling tools.
