Role Overview
This role is responsible for leading the company’s strategic growth, revenue generation, regulatory compliance, and brand positioning in South Africa’s sophisticated financial services and cross-border payments market. As the senior leader in the country, you will translate corporate goals into local execution, build and empower a high-performing team, and secure strategic partnerships that accelerate traction and sustainable profitability.
What you will be doing everyday
Country Strategy & Execution:Develop and implement the business plan tailored to South African market dynamics, including corridor expansion and enterprise penetration.
Commercial Growth & P&L Leadership:Own revenue, margin, and country P&L. Drive acquisition of strategic clients, renewals and high-value accounts.
Partnership & Ecosystem Development:Build deep partnerships with banks, fintechs, PSPs, wallets, remitters, marketplaces and enterprise clients.
Regulatory & Compliance Navigation:Ensure compliance with South African regulatory requirements (FSCA, SARB compliance, licensing, AML/KYC standards).
Operational Performance & Customer Success:Ensure smooth end-to-end customer journeys with strong retention, uptime, SLAs and customer satisfaction.
Market Insight & Competitive Vigilance:Monitor market trends, competitor moves, and local customer behavior.
Stakeholder Engagement & Brand Positioning: Represent the company in industry forums, with regulators, partners and press.
Minimum Requirements
Technical Skills
8+ years in senior leadership, country strategy, or general management roles in fintech, payments, or financial services.
Proven commercial success in high-growth, regulated markets.
Strong P&L, budgeting, and financial management skills.
Deep understanding of South African payments, FX, and regulatory landscape.
Behavioral Competencies
Strategic thinker with strong execution discipline.
Excellent stakeholder management with executive presence.
Highly collaborative and team-centric leadership.
Cultural fluency in local business norms.
