Senior Education Outreach and Transition Assistant

Salary: £29,588 with progression to £31,236 per annum

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity to work with the Library’s highly regarded Education Outreach and Transition team. You will work with the team on the development of teaching resources and the delivery of outreach activities for local schools using the Library’s information resources and materials from Special Collections and Archives. 

You should be able to work effectively on your own, and also be a good team player.  This role provides opportunities to liaise with a wide range of contacts, including library colleagues, staff and students across the university, researchers, teachers and members of the public, and so excellent communication skills are vital.

This role is a permanent full-time position. Hours of work are 37 hours per week. This role is suitable for blended working.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Key Accountabilities

• To assist the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team with school visits to the library, including giving library tours and delivering study skills sessions to sixth form students


• To support the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of outreach projects and workshops with local schools


• To identify (and, where appropriate, arrange the digitisation of) suitable materials from Special Collections and Archives for potential use in Education Outreach projects, workshops and resources on curriculum topics specified by the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team


• To keep the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition webpages up to date, including creating new web resources and online exhibitions with the support of the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team and Digital Library Services


• To promote the activities of the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team by creating content for and managing the Education Outreach team’s newsletter and any other promotional work as well as sourcing promotional merchandise


• To support the Library’s Education Outreach and Transition team in the administration of school visits, including taking bookings, processing sixth form access application forms, collating feedback


• To collate data on the team’s activities, providing regular reports on these, as required, to support the Education Outreach and Transition team in planning service delivery and development


• To be responsible for ongoing self-development including keeping up to date with best practice


• To carry out any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required

The Person 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


• Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise


• Excellent IT skills including experience of using MS Office suite


• Ability to work independently using own initiative


• Experience of working with secondary aged students


• Experience of creating and editing content for websites

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English and at least 2 A levels (or equivalent)
