About the Position
SARS is looking for a Senior Application support engineer that will be able to support, implement and maintain Microsoft IIS Systems in house developed and 3rd Party Applications. This includes monitoring and ensuring that business applications are properly implemented and available to support business continuity.
Job Purpose
To perform Systems Engineering activities for all IT projects; include maintaining the hardware / firmware / operating system / software / application server software and meet service levels agreements. The Senior Systems Engineer work in both production and non-production environments.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
National Diploma / Advance Certificate (NQF6) Information Technology (IT) or similar and 3-4 years’ experience in Microsoft IIS Support, in-house developed and 3rd Party Application Support from an Information Technology (IT) environment, of which 1 - 2 years is at a knowledge worker level.
OR
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) with one or more of the below IT Qualification (s) / Certification (s) – Microsoft Windows Server: Active Directory, Networking, Server Infrastructure support, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft products (Microsoft SCOM, Microsoft SCCM, or any other Microsoft Certification); and related Server Operating System and Server Hardware certification related to server support), CompTIA Network+, or VMware Certification or similar
AND
6 years' extensive experience in Microsoft IIS Support, in-house developed and 3rd Party Application Support from an Information Technology (IT) environment, of which 1 - 2 years is at a knowledge worker level.
Minimum Functional Requirements
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server (MCSA / MCSE or equivalent Microsoft role-based certifications)
- Windows Internet Information Services knowledge
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ‑104)
- Windows: Microsoft IIS Support, in house developed and 3rd Party Application Support

- Assist in ensuring a stable performance environment for the business processing system.
- Maintain the software at the Regional Data Centres, respond to alerts, monitor dashboards and periodic system review.
- Maintaining and supporting technical infrastructure system software components
- To conduct application server software updates and fixes.
- To apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks
- To ensures a stable performance environment for the business processing system.
- To accumulate information and provide reports with recommendations applicable to area of specialisation.
- To participate in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the system infrastructure, ensuring change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed.
- To be responsible for the maintenance, support and upgrades of in-house developed applications and 3rd Party Applications.
- Installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining software and system management tools.
- Effectively plan and schedule own activities to continuously improve quality and service delivery in area of specialisation
- To deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
- To be responsible for the maintenance and support of system software components mostly in Production environments.
- Performing high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption.
