Job Description - South Africa - Coordinating Doctor

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Doctor to provide clinical leadership and expert medical guidance.


In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering world-class medical assistance, occupational health, and emergency response services, ensuring our clients and their people receive the highest standard of care—anywhere in the world.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Assistance & Case Management



  • Lead and oversee medical case direction and clinical decision-making

  • Conduct telephonic medical assessments and offer real-time advice globally

  • Coordinate patient care, hospitalisation, evacuations, and repatriations

  • Ensure smooth case handovers and continuity of care

  • Supervise medical monitoring and liaise with treating practitioners


 


Client Support & Medical Services



  • Respond to medically related calls and emergencies worldwide

  • Provide expert advice to patients, families, employers, and insurers

  • Arrange referrals, medical reports, and treatment plans

  • Maintain accurate, high-quality documentation and case updates


 


Occupational Health & Work Health Services



  • Deliver occupational and workplace health services in line with industry standards (OSHA/IADC)

  • Assess fitness for work and return-to-work readiness

  • Guide onsite personnel in remote or offshore environments

  • Manage workplace injury and illness cases


 


Medical Transportation & Evacuations



  • Assess and coordinate medical evacuations and repatriations

  • Determine the most appropriate mode of transport (air ambulance, commercial etc.)

  • Liaise with airlines and medical providers for clearances


 


Stakeholder Engagement



  • Communicate effectively with clients, medical professionals, and internal teams

  • Build trusted relationships with global healthcare providers

  • Support business development and promote International SOS services

Required Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications



  • MBChB (essential)

  • Full HPCSA Registration

    • Postgraduate training/experience in Emergency Medicine / Occupational Health / Travel Medicine / Family Medicine is highly advantageous



  • Certifications: ATLS, ACLS, BLS (required)


 


Experience



  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate community service

  • Experience in:



    • Emergency Department and/or General Practice

    • Exposure to maritime or occupational health environments (advantageous)

    • Previous experience in international medical assistance or remote medical services and/or any training/diploma or qualification in Travel/Tropical Medicine, Emergency Medicine and or Family Medicine is advantageous
