An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and professional Scrub Technician / Clinical Support Specialist to join our Neuro & Spine Division in Cape Town. This role is focused on providing exceptional clinical and technical support during specialised Neuro, Spine and Orthopaedic Trauma procedures, while building strong relationships with healthcare professionals and supporting the achievement of regional sales objectives.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Salesperson and Sales Manager to support surgeons, theatre staff, hospitals, and customers through product expertise, clinical assistance, inventory management, and superior service delivery.

This position requires extensive travel, long working hours, participation in an on-call roster, and the ability to work within a high-pressure theatre environment.

Clinical and Theatre Support

  • Attend and support specialised Neuro, Spine and Orthopaedic Trauma procedures within operating theatres.
  • Scrub into theatre (gown and glove) and actively participate as part of the surgical support team.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to surgeons and theatre personnel during procedures.
  • Ensure all required equipment, instrumentation and implants are available and correctly prepared for cases.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges during procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and exceed customer expectations during specialised theatre cases.
  • Gain and maintain detailed knowledge of all products, instrumentation and capital equipment within the division.

Product Training and Clinical Education

  • Conduct product training and in-service education sessions for:
    • Surgeons
    • Scrub Sisters
    • Theatre Staff
    • CSSD Personnel
    • Clinical Support Teams
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of products through professional product instruction.
  • Remain current on clinical trends, surgical techniques, clinical studies and relevant scientific information relating to Neuro and Spine products.
  • Present product information effectively using approved marketing and training materials.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with surgeons, hospital management, theatre teams and end-users.
  • Develop long-term customer partnerships through professional support and service excellence.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer enquiries and requests.
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing business within allocated accounts.
  • Work closely with the Senior Salesperson to ensure customer needs are met effectively.

Sales Support

  • Support the Senior Salesperson in achieving and exceeding territory sales targets.
  • Assist in implementing sales and business development strategies within the region.
  • Follow up on customer leads, new opportunities and product enquiries.
  • Identify potential growth opportunities and communicate these to management.
  • Gather market intelligence and competitor information within the territory.
  • Maintain awareness of current business opportunities and forecasted activity within the territory.

Stock and Asset Management

  • Manage consignment stock held at hospitals and customer facilities.
  • Conduct regular stock checks and inventory audits.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and ensure accountability for stock variances.
  • Monitor stock levels and proactively replenish inventory when required.
  • Ensure orders are processed accurately and immediately upon receipt.
  • Assist with equipment tracking and inventory control for capital equipment and surgical instrumentation.

Administration and Reporting

  • Complete weekly activity reports and other administrative requirements accurately and timeously.
  • Maintain detailed records of customer interactions, product usage and case support activities.
  • Provide management with regular feedback on territory activities and performance.
  • Report customer complaints, technical issues and product-related concerns promptly.
  • Ensure invoicing, delivery processes and documentation comply with company procedures.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and internal systems effectively.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
  • Follow hospital protocols, theatre procedures and infection control standards at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and healthcare industry requirements.


Requirements

Education

  • Relevant qualification in:
    • Nursing
    • Operating Department Assistance
    • Biomedical Sciences
    • Human Movement Science
    • Orthopaedics
    • Healthcare Sciences
    • Or related medical field

Experience

  • Previous theatre, scrub technician, clinical support or medical device experience advantageous.
  • Experience supporting Neuro, Spine or Orthopaedic Trauma procedures will be highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to hospital and operating theatre environments preferred.
  • Experience with managing consignment stock and inventory control beneficial.

  • Own cell phone and laptop/computer.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours when required.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call roster, including every third weekend.
  • Physically capable of spending extended periods in operating theatre environments.
  • Must be well presented and professional at all times.
