We are seeking a proactive, safety-focused, Team Leader – Base Maintenance to lead our maintenance team in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient aircraft maintenance operations.The successful candidate will provide day-to-day leadership, ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards, and foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
You'll oversee and co-ordinate production staff as assigned to you at JHB main base to perform C-Checks and SVM in order to keep company aircraft in a good operating condition to ensure on time performance.
Duties Include, but are not limited to:
Instruct, guide and supervise all staff under your control in all necessary maintenance tasks.
Ensure all maintenance is being executed within statutory and company requirements, and in accordance with the MOE and MOP to provide airworthy aircraft and on time performance.
Ensure maintenance tasks and functions are certified and recorded appropriately in compliance with regulations and specifications, ensuring both administrative as well as airworthiness compliance.
Inspect and troubleshoot aircraft systems to identify problems, errors or defects. Conduct repairs and defect rectification on aircraft in accordance with approved procedures to ensure airworthiness.
Ensure dress code and safety practices are adhered to by staff, manage and resolve staff disputes, and assist with leave management.
Update the relevant Chief AME of any critical items or matters requiring attention on a daily basis.
Report any incidents, accidents, hazards, or non-conformances to the Chief AMEs and assure that all Personal Protection Equipment, access mechanisms and equipment are used in accordance with the rules as defined in the OHS Act and MOP.
Ensure only approved tooling and spares are used, and ensure the correct procedures are followed when requesting and returning of equipment.
Ensure ground support equipment is in safe working condition and only operated by licensed and/or approved staff.
Skills and Qualifications
Hold a valid A320 SACAA AME licence (Avionics or Mechanical) and company approval
Associated EASA qualifications would be an advantage
Must have supervisory experience within an aircraft maintenance and production organization.
Knowledge and experience of working to CATS and CARS Standards.
Knowledge of airworthiness regulations (e.g., SACAA/EASA).
Sound understanding of MOP and SOPS.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a small team.
Ability to plan staff assignment effectively and efficiently and follow clear, logical process methodically.
Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Able to prioritise work, keen attention to detail for the tasks required, particularly with regards to the accuracy of the documentation produced and able to work under pressure.
Must be an effective team player, but also have the ability and confidence to be able to work autonomously.
Computer literate
General Requirements • Prepared to work shifts which will include weekends and Public Holidays. • An awareness of Health and Safety rules and regulations. • Intercultural competence. • Valid driving license. • Valid Passport • South African citizen or be eligible to work in South Africa.
