The Properties & Services Department invites applications for Transport Operations Supervisors responsible for the effective coordination, supervision and continuous improvement of UCT's shuttle operations across campuses and residences. The incumbent will oversee daily transport activities, ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies, and support the delivery of a safe, reliable and customer-focused shuttle service. The role requires flexibility to work shifts in line with operational requirements.
Requirements for the position
- A grade 12 certificate or equivalent, together with an NQF level 5 tertiary qualification relevant to the bus passenger transport industry.
- Minimum of 5 years' proven experience in the passenger transport industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role and 2 years' experience in driver and/or staff training. (e.g., K53 refresher training, defensive driving, road safety, customer service, and regulatory compliance training etc).
- A valid unendorsed South African driver's license with a valid Professional Driving Permit - Code C or EC license without any vehicle restrictions.
- Computer literate with a high level of proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc) at an intermediate to advanced level.
- Sound knowledge and experience of the Higher Education environment including the public transport system and the ability to interpret legislation, regulations & guidelines.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal abilities, effective conflict resolution, and advanced problem-solving capabilities. Demonstrates excellent project coordination and time management skills.
- Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a team, with the capacity to engage professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders, including internal (UCT) and external clients from varied professional and non-professional backgrounds.
The following will be advantageous:
- Driver/staff training certificate relevant to the road transport industry.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee and coordinate daily shuttle operations efficiently and effectively, provide supervision and guidance to shuttle staff, and ensure all vehicles are maintained in a clean, fueled, safe and roadworthy condition.
- Ensure compliance with applicable University policies and procedures, as well as relevant national road traffic legislation and regulations.
- Facilitate and oversee the provision of appropriate job-specific training to shuttle staff providing administrative support, report writing and ensuring that all accidents are reported to the relevant parties, investigated & finalized timeously.
- Attend to and escalate, if necessary, grievances & complaints lodged with regards to the shuttle operations which include attending to and reporting emergency situations.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including students and internal and external clients.
- Perform other related duties (ad hoc) as may be reasonably assigned from time to time.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R448 889 and R528 105.
