Ttl Conceptual Art Director Required To Partner With A Copywriter On A Freelance Contract, With The

Role overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Art Director to join a Johannesburg-based creative team for an initial one-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality creative concepts across multiple platforms while working closely with copywriters, designers, strategists and account teams.

This is an office-based position suited to a hands-on creative who can work quickly, respond constructively to feedback and consistently produce polished work under tight deadlines. Extension beyond the first month will depend on the quality, consistency and volume of output delivered.

Key responsibilities

• Develop strong, original visual concepts in response to creative briefs.
  
• Partner with copywriters to create cohesive campaign ideas and executions.
  
• Translate strategic objectives into compelling visual communication.
  
• Lead the visual direction of campaigns across digital, social, print, presentation and other relevant channels.
  
• Produce or oversee layouts, storyboards, mock-ups and campaign assets.
  
• Maintain visual consistency across campaign elements and platforms.
  
• Present creative concepts clearly to internal teams and clients.
  
• Incorporate feedback without compromising the quality or integrity of the work.
  
• Guide designers and other creative team members where required.
  
• Manage multiple briefs, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  
• Ensure all work is accurate, on-brand and ready for final production.
  
• Contribute actively to brainstorming, reviews and creative problem-solving.
  

Requirements

• Substantial experience as an Art Director or Senior Art Director within an agency, studio or fast-paced creative environment.
  
• A strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and polished campaign execution.
  
• Experience producing integrated work across digital, social and traditional channels.
  
• Advanced proficiency in relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  
• Strong understanding of typography, composition, visual hierarchy and brand systems.
  
• Ability to interpret briefs and develop strategically relevant creative solutions.
  
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
  
• Comfortable working collaboratively with copywriters and multidisciplinary teams.
  
• Able to work independently, manage pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
  
• Available to work from the Johannesburg office for the contract period.
  
• Able to start on 1 September.
