ASM Instructional Coach

POSITION:
ASM Instructional Coach 

SUPERVISOR:
Appropriate Director as designated 

Focus Area: With the aim of improving the overall instructional program for students, Instructional Coaches will be flexibly deployed across ASM based on divisional needs and the skills and experience of the coach.

ROLE DESCRIPTION: 

The K-12 Instruction Coach will work to support divisional directors, teachers, and other staff in planning, coordinating, and facilitating a comprehensive and consistent educational program. The coach will be responsible for improving individual teacher practices through building collaborative teams, engaging in coaching cycles, and supporting group professional learning on research-based instructional practices in the classrooms. The coach will also assist with curriculum mapping, problem solving, collaboration and additional duties as needed. 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: 

● Valid teacher certification 

● 5+ years of full-time lead teaching experience in a K-5 classroom 

● Previous training and experience coaching a wide range of educators 

● Knowledge of adult learning theory and team development 

● Successful experience planning and facilitating adult professional development in large or small group settings 

● Experience in curriculum design and mapping of units, lessons, and projects 

● Experience supporting teachers and students in areas such as: inquiry-based teaching, project-based learning, workshop teaching, conceptual math, service learning, technology integration models, and effective interdisciplinary practices K-12 

● Experience using data to inform instructional practices 

● Experience in standards-based grading and assessment practices 

● Expert knowledge of educational technology and its implementation in the teaching and learning process 

● Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills 

● Commitment to and belief in diversity, equity, and inclusion for all learners 

● Fluent speaker of English 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

● Work with the Lower School leadership team and other Instructional Coaches/K-12 Curriculum Coordinator to build systems and offer direct support to teachers around the growth, development and articulation of the ASM curriculum, goals and strategic plan. 

● Coach teachers using coaching cycles and other best practices 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Support new teacher orientation 

● Engage in ongoing learning related to role 

● Additional duties as assigned 

HOURS AND WORK DAYS:

ASM Instructional coaches follow the same work calendar as teacher leaders. Their last day is the last day for staff and they report back with teacher leaders generally 2 full days before the start date for all staff. The regular work day is 8:45-4:45 with some evenings and weekends for school events and special activities.
