Senior Functional Safety Leader

Team Overview:
Our team, “Central Functional Safety,” is at the heart of a significant transformation in vehicle development. We focus on developing and designing vehicle functional safety concepts, supporting all product streams to conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Functional Safety Concept (FSC), Technical Safety Concept (TSC), joint reviews with suppliers, and ensuring compliance with state-of-the-art standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), and AD standards like UL 4600.

Position Description:
As a Senior Functional Safety Leader, you will be part of the central functional safety competence center, involved in both process and product development. This role encompasses all levels of product development, including strategic planning, partner/supplier selection, reviewing Functional Safety Statements of Work, initial concept design, and stages of development through to production launch. You will interface with various groups, including electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, customers, and technical partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Actively write functional safety instructions and guidelines, providing templates.


• Deliver functional safety training for various activities, including impact analysis, HARA, and safety analysis for both software and hardware components.


• Plan and scorekeep safety test activities according to the scope of each vehicle project.


• Drive the development of functional and technical safety concepts within functions, systems, subsystems, software, and hardware.


• Lead functional safety engineering activities for product development teams and develop technical work products.


• Co-develop impact analyses and make recommendations for incorporating accurate safety criteria into system design and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.


• Develop technical work products specific to functional safety requirements, such as item definitions, criticality analyses, other safety analyses, and test coverage analyses for safety requirements.


• Support the implementation of functional and technical safety requirements in all vehicle system designs.


• Develop verification and validation strategies within subsystems, software, and hardware, including hazard and risk assessments (HARA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTAs), Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs), functional safety concepts, and technical safety concepts for systems with safety goals or ASIL-classified requirements.


• Integrate functional safety standards and industry common practices into corporate processes in accordance with ISO 26262.


• Ensure technical specifications and other work products are prepared, stored correctly, and managed for timely revisions and releases.


• Ensure safety plan activities meet program timelines.


• Align safety-related topics with suppliers and customers.

Required Qualifications:

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field.


• Knowledge of functional safety activities and deliverables according to ISO 26262.


• Documented experience in the following areas:
  
  
  1. Safety analyses at hardware and software levels, including HW/SW interfaces.
  
  
  2. FMEA & FTA, performing Design Failure Analysis (DFA), and analysis of freedom of interference.
  
  
  3. Specification of the hardware-software interface (HSI).
  
  
  4. Software/hardware architecture.
  
  
  5. Hardware schematics, BOM lists, and HW metrics (ASIL C/D).
  
  
  
  


• Experience in developing functional and technical safety concepts for the automotive industry within domains with ASIL B or higher.


• Fluent in English, both spoken and written (C2 level).


• Excellent communication skills.
