Mechanical Piping Fab Shop

Job Overview:

Provide QC inspection of metallic and plastic piping fabrication and installation at site and fabrication-shop locations, including welding/NDT, testing, traceability and turnover controls.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

TECHNICAL SCOPE
• Metallic and plastic piping systems
• Fabrication, fit-up, installation and supports
• Flanges, joints and piping interfaces
• Welding/NDT coordination and acceptance
• Pressure/leak testing, reinstatement and turnover

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Inspect piping fabrication and installation in accordance with approved ITPs, isometrics, specifications and applicable codes.
• Verify material identification, traceability, dimensions, fit-up, flange condition, supports and installation quality.
• Verify welding documentation and coordinate/review required NDT results and repair status.
• Witness pressure/leak tests and verify test packs, reinstatement and completion evidence.
• Raise QOCs/NCRs and follow corrective actions through effective closure.
• Support progressive compilation of piping quality records and turnover dossiers.

QUALITY PRINCIPLES & PROCESSES
• Apply the NCR/QOC lifecycle: identification, containment, disposition, technical review, root cause, corrective action, effectiveness verification and closure.
• Understand ITP Hold/Witness/Review/Surveillance points, inspection notification, objective evidence, traceability and acceptance records.
• Provide quality reporting covering activity, rejections, open/aged issues, trends, critical risks, actions and look-ahead.
• Escalate repeat, systemic, overdue or high-risk quality issues through the EPCM quality organization.
• Support punch management, progressive dossier completion and handover readiness.

EPCM DELIVERY EXPECTATIONS
• Maintain professional independence and base acceptance decisions on approved requirements and objective evidence.
• Coordinate effectively with Contractor, Construction, Engineering, Client Quality and discipline inspectors.
• Participate in relevant Kick-Off, Pre-Inspection and recurring Contractor Quality meetings; prepare evidence and close assigned actions.
• Apply a risk-based approach to critical, irreversible and high-rework activities.
• Promote prevention, early intervention, lessons learned and continuous improvement.
• Ensure quality records accurately represent executed work and support system completion and turnover.
 

Essential Qualifications and Education:

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Mechanical/piping technical qualification or engineering degree/diploma.
• Minimum 5 years piping QC experience in industrial EPC/EPCM construction or fabrication environments.
• Strong knowledge of piping drawings/isometrics, material traceability, fabrication, installation and pressure testing.
• Experience with metallic piping; plastic piping experience is a strong advantage.
• Strong working knowledge of welding/NDT documentation, ITPs, NCR/QOC processes and inspection records.

EU / INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Welding Engineer qualification – IWE/EWE or recognized international equivalent – required.
• NDT Level II certification to ISO 9712 or recognized equivalent in VT, MT, PT and RT is required, subject to the method/scope limitations stated on the certificate.
• For RT involving ionizing radiation, applicable Swedish radiation-safety, legal and employer authorization requirements apply in addition to NDT personnel certification.
