Production Engineer – Glass Preforms

Hudiksvall, Sweden

Are you passionate about leveraging glass materials science for innovative photonic products and production processes? At NKT Photonics, we develop state-of-the-art lasers and optical fiber solutions serving advanced industries and research fields. Our glass preform development and manufacturing team plays a pivotal role as the foundation for our high-performance optical fibers used in amplifiers and cutting-edge systems worldwide and we are growing.

We are looking for a dedicated Production Engineer with a strong curiosity for materials science to strengthen our engineering capabilities in our glass preform manufacturing team. While prior experience in the field of optical fibers is an advantage - what matters most is your drive, your curiosity, and your willingness to learn and take ownership. In this role, you will be responsible for running our preform manufacturing processes including all steps from raw material to final quality inspections. Your primary responsibility will be keeping a state-of-the art production environment up to speed with focus on quality and repeatability. Process control, production facility and infrastructure, and preventive maintenance are all central elements in the job.

You will be working closely with team members focusing on new materials and processes that contribute to improvements in glass materials used in our optical fiber amplifiers. We value self-motivated individuals who can manage smaller projects independently while receiving the support needed to grow professionally. The Role

• Responsible for production processes for glass preforms (MCVD)
• Preventive maintenance of equipment and tools for the manufacturing of glass preforms including facility and infrastructure
• Raw material inspections and quality control
• Local responsibility for chemical safety and waste management
• Collaborate with R&D team on new product introductions
• Glass preform materials analysis and quality control
• Maintain and improvement of product and process documentation

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field
• Strong willingness and ability to work hands-on in a mixed R&D/production environment
• Ability to take ownership of smaller projects and work independently, while collaborating effectively with others
• Experience with glass materials processing (preferred)
• Strong analytical skills and ability to question complex information
• Structured approach to failure mode analysis, root-cause identification and corrective action planning.
• Fluency in the English language
