Quality Civil Inspector Structural Steel

Job Overview:

Provide field QC inspection of structural-steel fabrication and erection, including secondary/support steel and interfaces associated with HVAC/ducting systems.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

TECHNICAL SCOPE
• Structural-steel erection and connections
• Bolted and welded connections
• Geometry, plumbness and post-erection surveys
• Secondary/support steel and HVAC duct/equipment support interfaces
• Coating interfaces, punch and completion records

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Inspect structural-steel erection against approved drawings, ITPs, checklists and execution requirements.
• Verify member identification, connection details, bolt installation/tightening and dimensional compliance.
• Review survey results and required post-erection geometry checks.
• Verify secondary/support steel and structural interfaces supporting HVAC ducting/equipment where included in scope.
• Coordinate welding/NDT and coating interfaces with specialist inspectors.
• Raise QOCs/NCRs and follow corrective actions and punch items to closure.

QUALITY PRINCIPLES & PROCESSES
• Apply the NCR/QOC lifecycle: identification, containment, disposition, technical review, root cause, corrective action, effectiveness verification and closure.
• Understand ITP Hold/Witness/Review/Surveillance points, inspection notification, objective evidence, traceability and acceptance records.
• Provide quality reporting covering activity, rejections, open/aged issues, trends, critical risks, actions and look-ahead.
• Escalate repeat, systemic, overdue or high-risk quality issues through the EPCM quality organization.
• Support punch management, progressive dossier completion and handover readiness.

EPCM DELIVERY EXPECTATIONS
• Maintain professional independence and base acceptance decisions on approved requirements and objective evidence.
• Coordinate effectively with Contractor, Construction, Engineering, Client Quality and discipline inspectors.
• Participate in relevant Kick-Off, Pre-Inspection and recurring Contractor Quality meetings; prepare evidence and close assigned actions.
• Apply a risk-based approach to critical, irreversible and high-rework activities.
• Promote prevention, early intervention, lessons learned and continuous improvement.
• Ensure quality records accurately represent executed work and support system completion and turnover.
 

Essential Qualifications and Education:

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Civil/structural/mechanical technical qualification or engineering degree/diploma.
• Minimum 5 years relevant structural-steel QC/inspection experience on industrial EPC/EPCM projects.
• Good working knowledge of EN 1090 execution requirements, erection tolerances, bolting and dimensional surveys.
• Experience with ducting/HVAC systems installation, HVAC support steel, secondary steel and equipment-support interfaces is an advantage.
• Ability to read structural drawings, connection/support details, ITPs and survey reports.

EU / INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Welding inspection and/or bolting inspection qualification is advantageous.
• Relevant HVAC/ducting installation awareness or recognized HVAC inspection/commissioning training is advantageous where the role interfaces with HVAC support systems.
