Quality Inspector Insulation/Coating

Job Overview:

Provide specialist QC inspection for protective coating and insulation works on piping, equipment and associated systems, ensuring environmental, surface-preparation, application and documentation controls are effective.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Surface preparation and coating systems
• Environmental conditions and material controls
• DFT, visual acceptance and specified coating tests
• Coating repairs / holiday testing where applicable
• Thermal insulation and weatherproofing systems
• Piping and static-equipment interfaces
• Inspect surface preparation, coating application and insulation installation against approved procedures, ITPs and specifications
• Verify environmental conditions, batch/material traceability, shelf life, application parameters and inspection instruments.
• Perform/verify DFT, visual acceptance and other specified coating tests; verify repair areas and final acceptance.
• Inspect insulation materials, installation, weatherproofing and interface details.
• Raise QOCs/NCRs and follow repair/corrective-action verification through closure.
• Maintain complete inspection records, provide quality-reporting inputs and support turnover documentation.
• Participate in Kick-Off Meetings, PIMs and contractor quality reviews for coating/insulation scope.
• Field Expectation:
  • Be visible at active work fronts and critical inspection points.
  • Verify actual field implementation - not only contractor paperwork.
  • Prioritize irreversible, safety/quality-critical and high-risk activities.
  • Maintain constructive but independent QC/QA judgement

Essential Qualifications and Education:

• Engineering / technical diploma or equivalent recognized qualification with specialist coating / insulation inspection background
• Minimum 5 years relevant coating QC experience on industrial construction projects, including documented inspection practice
• Practical experience with surface preparation, coating application, inspection instrumentation and repair control
• Insulation inspection experience on piping/equipment is required where included in assigned scope
• EU / INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• The following qualifications / competence requirements apply. Certificates shall be valid and verifiable where certification is stated as mandatory
  • FROSIO Surface Treatment Inspector Level III (Red) required for coating inspection scope
  • If responsible for insulation inspection, FROSIO Insulation Inspector Level II/III or equivalent recognised qualification is strongly preferred
  • AMPP/NACE equivalent may be considered only subject to Project Quality Manager acceptance and demonstrated competence for the assigned scope
• Role-specific knowledge expected for independent field judgement
• Strong knowledge of applicable ISO surface-preparation/coating standards, product datasheets, environmental controls and inspection instruments
• Understand coating defects, repair systems, insulation materials, weatherproofing and CUI-prevention interfaces
