Description

Role Purpose

The Linux Engineer will design, implement, secure and support enterprise Linux platforms. The role will contribute to platform reliability, automation, lifecycle management and the modernisation of infrastructure services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build, configure and maintain enterprise Linux servers and platforms.
  • Manage operating system upgrades, patching, hardening and lifecycle activities.
  • Implement security baselines, identity controls and configuration standards.
  • Support high availability, resilience, backup and recovery requirements.
  • Develop scripts and automation to improve provisioning and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code initiatives and CI/CD integration.
  • Support containerised platforms and Kubernetes-based services where required.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity and security events.
  • Participate in incident, problem and change management processes.
  • Investigate complex technical issues and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with application, database, network, security and cloud engineering teams.


Requirements

Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux environments, particularly Red Hat.
  • Knowledge of Linux installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Experience with shell scripting and automation, particularly Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Understanding of networking, storage, authentication, certificates and system security.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation, cloud platforms and container technologies.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and associated ecosystem tools would be advantageous.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, event correlation and operational support.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and Git workflows.
  • Ability to apply secure configuration baselines and support compliance requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically six to ten years of relevant experience, or demonstrable expertise appropriate to the role.
  • Experience coordinating the work of others or contributing to technical projects is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of platform reliability, security, resilience and operational excellence.
  • Experience participating in incident, problem, change and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to document technical solutions and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development and relevant industry accreditations.
  • A collaborative approach to engineering, with a focus on continuous improvement and automation.
