Job Description - Project Engineer Intern - Cooling Optimization (ASAP)

IN SHORT

Are you a hands-on engineering student who enjoys a mix of deep analytical work and getting out of the office to solve real-world problems? As our new Project Engineer Intern (ASAP, 2-3 months, 100%) based in Zurich Wiedikon, you will be right in the middle of the action. Balancing your time between our office and on-site field visits, you will investigate root causes and optimize the performance and reliability of our smart hardware fleet across Switzerland.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Diagnose current fridge cooling systems across various site conditions and usage patterns
Identify root causes behind cooling instability, from compressor performance and door-opening frequency to ambient heat load and airflow design
Develop and propose effective solutions for each identified issue, ranging from quick fixes to long-term structural improvements
Improve overall cooling stability, factoring in the real-world effects of climate change and rising office temperatures
Ensure maximum food safety by keeping our fridges reliably within required temperature ranges, even under severe heat stress
Work both hands-on (testing, measuring, and visiting fridges on-site) and strategically (conducting analysis, providing recommendations, and creating documentation)

YOUR PROFILE

Currently studying engineering (mechanical, process, thermal, or a related field) with around 3 years of academic experience
Solid understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanical systems
Practical and curious mindset, with the ability to move fluidly between hands-on diagnostics and structured problem-solving
Availability to commit to a 2–3 month project over the summer
Fluency in either German or English; speaking both is a distinct advantage
Non-smoker - we don't want you to smell like cigarettes, neither at work nor at customer meetings. After all, FELFEL is about good food.
Valid work permit or Swiss passport.
