Assistant system controller - Control Room

JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinate with the Control Room Engineer/System Controller and carry out instructions related to the generation of electricity and steam, including monitoring control equipment and all associated plant parameters and services in a safe and efficient manner. At the Jebel Ali site, this includes the supply of power to both the Jebel Ali site and third-party customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Operate the plant as instructed to ensure electrical power is generated and distributed safely and efficiently in accordance with the daily operational plan, meeting the operational needs of the Smelter Complex and third-party customers, where applicable.

• Monitor Gas Turbines, HRSGs, and Steam Turbines operating parameters to ensure maximum steam generation.

• Control and assist in the collection of accurate and reliable operational data to monitor performance against targets and support accurate invoicing for third-party customers. Perform routine operational calculations related to efficiency and electrical fault levels for review and approval by higher authority.

• Initiate the start-up and shutdown of various plant equipment in accordance with instructions from the Control Room Engineer/System Controller.

• Monitor overall system conditions at all times, including gas systems, steam systems, compressed air systems, fuel systems, and other associated utilities.

• Report temperature alarms, vibration alarms, and any other operational alarms requiring attention.

• Monitor fuel consumption, frequency, voltage, and current to ensure proper power generation and smelter operations.

• Ensure all operational routines are carried out promptly and effectively.

• Communicate with Field Operators, the Control Room Engineer/System Controller, and Supervisors regarding any plant abnormalities requiring corrective action.

• Train subordinate personnel as required to support departmental objectives.

• Raise work requests and store requests as directed by the Control Room Engineer/System Controller, Supervisor, or Shift Charge Engineer.

• Ensure plant operations do not result in environmental incidents within the assigned area, minimizing waste and maintaining compliance with legal and environmental requirements.

• Participate in the Suggestion Scheme and, when required, review and verify suggestions to support continuous improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field.

Minimum Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the Power Generation or Manufacturing industry.

Skills:

• Proficiency in computer applications, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic programming being essential.
