The Role
The CAA is looking for a design and certification specialist to assist with Continued Airworthiness activities as well as other specialist activities that drive the diverse certification and design activities associated with commercial air transport.
Reporting to the Principal Specialist in the Continued Airworthiness team, you will be responsible for the ongoing surveillance and monitoring of the continued airworthiness of aircraft, systems, engines and propellers across commercial air transport aircraft using incident data from the UK and worldwide Airspace operations and highlighting any situation that could be deemed to constitute an unsafe condition.
This varied role will also involve liaison with the UK industry for certification/oversight activities and other aviation authorities (EASA, FAA, ANAC etc), the review of Occurrence reports and worldwide media posts and publications which could highlight an unsafe condition. Investigate that issue and ultimately work with the design approval holder and mandate the rectification / modification to bring the design back in line with its certification requirements.
A summary of Core Accountabilities
About You: Ideally you will be able to demonstrate industry experience with an equivalent qualification, be a proven expert with detailed knowledge of the functioning and management of the aerospace industry, and have proven aerospace experience, preferably working for an approved aerospace organisation in a Continued Airworthiness leading or supporting role.

• Proven knowledge of certification in one or more of the identified disciplines, as outlined below, with sufficient experience to have achieved level of Certification Signatory or Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) within Industry, or expert and detailed knowledge of the functioning of aviation regulation gained through relevant experience within an Airworthiness Authority.

Desirable Criteria:
You would need to be able to hold a valid passport that allows international travel without restrictions. Also, the role will require the ability to support time away from home to support allocated projects.
Additional Security Information: For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance. If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application. Relocation & Property: The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational, and environmental considerations. We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers. We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site, and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028
