Have you built an SME insurance proposition from the ground up and turned it into a significant commercial business?
We’re looking for an exceptional commercial insurance leader to build, launch and scale our business insurance proposition.
This is not a role focused on managing an established insurance book. It is an opportunity to create something new: shaping the proposition and commercial model, selecting the right insurance and technology partners, designing a compelling digital customer journey and taking the business from concept through launch to sustainable growth.
You will have end-to-end ownership, including the strategy, business case, operating model, implementation roadmap and P&L, with accountability for growth, profitability, partner performance and customer outcomes.
The opportunity
You will:
Build the business: define the strategy, proposition, target SME segments, operating model, investment case and route to market.
Take it from concept to scale: lead the proposition through design, partner selection, implementation and launch, then own its commercial performance and continued growth.
Create a strong digital proposition: make it simple and convenient for SME customers to access suitable business insurance, with fast quotation and effective use of customer information where permitted.
Own the economics: take responsibility for the P&L, budget and five-year plan, driving revenue, profitability and customer targets.
Build the right partnerships: select, negotiate with and manage insurers, brokers and technology providers to create a commercially attractive and differentiated proposition.
Lead across the organisation: bring together Product, Technology, Data, Marketing, Operations, Lending and other teams to turn the strategy into a successful business.
Build for the future: develop the team and capabilities needed as the proposition grows.
What we’re looking for
We are particularly interested in senior insurance leaders who can point to what they have built and the commercial results they created.
You will bring:
Significant senior-level experience in UK general insurance, with strong commercial-lines and SME insurance expertise.
A proven track record of taking new insurance products or propositions from concept through launch and into meaningful commercial scale.
Strong digital product and distribution experience, with an understanding of how technology and data can create a faster, simpler customer journey.
Genuine commercial ownership, including P&L, trading, product, distribution, growth and customer outcomes.
Experience working with insurers, brokers and technology partners, including commercial negotiation and performance management.
A strong understanding of insurance distribution regulation and the ability to build growth with good customer outcomes at its heart.
The credibility to operate at senior executive and Board level while remaining close enough to delivery to get things done.
Experience building an insurance proposition within a bank, fintech or challenger financial institution, or working with embedded, affinity or white-label insurance models, would be particularly valuable.
Why this role?
This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants to do more than inherit and optimise an established insurance business.
You’ll have the mandate to create the proposition, shape the commercial model, launch it and then prove it in the market.
If you are an entrepreneurial insurance leader who combines deep SME expertise with digital product experience, commercial instinct and a track record of turning new propositions into substantial revenue, we’d like to hear from you.
