The Role
We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of a busy fabrication workshop. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge of heavy fabrication, welding, punch and brake press operations, and machine shop processes.
Working closely with the Office Manager, you will lead the production team, ensure manufacturing targets are achieved, maintain quality standards, and drive workshop performance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily workshop operations and production schedules. Lead, motivate, and develop a team of 20+ welders and fabricators. Allocate labour and resources to meet production targets. Ensure all work is completed safely, on time, and to specification. Monitor workshop productivity, quality, and performance KPIs. Maintain high health & safety and housekeeping standards. Coordinate equipment maintenance and workshop resources. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Previous experience in a Workshop Manager, Supervisor, or Team Leader role. Strong background in heavy fabrication and welding. Experience managing teams of 20+ welders and fabricators. Knowledge of MIG welding, punch machinery, brake press, and machine shop operations. Welding experience with materials up to 25mm thickness. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Strong leadership and organisational skills. Good understanding of health & safety requirements.
Desirable
TIG welding experience. Experience within heavy engineering, vehicle, trailer, or structural steel manufacturing. Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience. Relevant fabrication or welding qualifications.
