Job Description - NLGV Driver Operative

6 Months Contract with a Local Authority

Umbrella - £19.64 per hour - Umbrella

Job Purpose

As an NLGV Driver Operative, you will support Street Cleansing operations by driving non-HGV vehicles and carrying out a range of cleansing, maintenance and environmental duties to ensure public spaces are kept clean, safe and presentable.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

• Drive non-LGV vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes including cleansing vehicles and sweepers.

• Carry out manual and mechanical street cleansing duties.

• Operate pedestrian-controlled sweepers and cleansing equipment.

• Litter pick public areas and remove fly-tipping.

• Empty litter and dog waste bins.

• Remove leaves, weeds and other environmental waste.

• Assist with safe removal of hazardous items where required.

• Use hand tools including blowers and strimmers.

• Complete daily vehicle and equipment checks.

• Maintain accurate records using handheld and in-cab systems.

• Work collaboratively with Street Cleansing and Highways teams.

• Ensure all duties are completed in line with Health & Safety procedures.

Essential Experience Required

• Full Category B Driving Licence.

• Experience driving non-LGV vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.

• Experience operating cleansing equipment or mechanical sweepers.

• Experience working in street cleansing, environmental services, grounds maintenance or similar roles.

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Good communication skills.

• Basic IT skills for reporting and recording tasks.

• Flexible and proactive approach to work.

Additional Information to Note

• Working Hours: 37 hours per week.

• Monday to Friday.

• Shift Pattern: 07:00 - 15:00.

• West Thurrock, Essex, RM20 3ED.

• Online Interview via Microsoft Teams.

• Interview Date: 16th October 2026.

• Driving Licence required.

• 3 Years References required.

• Supplier Submission Deadline: 9th October 2026.

• We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
