Job Description - Planning Consultant

Some planning roles are about volume. Others are about quality, trust, and being part of a team that takes genuine pride in what it delivers. This sits firmly in the latter.

This is an opportunity to join a consultancy that has built its reputation on doing things properly — thoughtful advice, strong client relationships, and a willingness to approach challenges with a bit more creativity than most. Their work spans a diverse client base, but the common thread is a consistent standard and a clear focus on outcomes. What they do they do very well. This could be a residential, heath care, education or rural led planning scheme. It could be applications, it could be site promotion. You will likely be adaptable and looking for variety in your role.

You’ll be stepping into a team that values both professionalism and culture. It’s a supportive environment where people take their work seriously, but not themselves — collaboration is natural, and there’s a shared sense that enjoying the work and the company around you matters.

The role itself offers a broad mix of responsibility. You’ll be involved in preparing and managing planning applications, appeals and pre -application work, alongside site appraisals and research. There’s exposure to community engagement, committee meetings and client -facing work, so confidence in communication is important. Report writing is a key part of the role — clear, well -reasoned and commercially aware.

You won’t be working in isolation. There’s an expectation that you’ll support and mentor more junior planners, while continuing to develop your own experience managing projects and navigating the planning process from start to finish. You’ll also play a part in maintaining and strengthening client relationships, contributing to the wider success of the business.

The right person will already have solid experience within the UK planning system, likely with time spent in the private sector. RTPI membership is expected, alongside a relevant planning or environmental degree. Beyond that, it’s about approach — someone who can think critically, communicate effectively, and handle competing demands without losing attention to detail.

This is a town planning role for someone who wants to be part of a growing business and a close -knit team, rather than just another name in a larger structure.

The position is full -time, with a hybrid home and office working arrangement, and a salary aligned with experience.

If this feels like the kind of environment you’d want to be part of, applications can be sent to [email protected]or for a confidential discussion call 07789 371470.
