Team Manager – Family Safeguarding
Location: Preston
Directorate: Education & Children's Services
Service: Children's Social Care

Lancashire County Council is looking for an experienced and passionate Team Manager – Family Safeguarding to lead a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for children, young people, and families.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a qualified social work professional who is committed to safeguarding children, driving service excellence, and supporting practitioners to deliver outstanding interventions that make a real difference.

About the Role

As Team Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 10 professionals, ensuring high-quality assessments, effective risk management, and timely support for children and families.

Working closely with Senior Managers and partner agencies, you will drive performance, promote continuous improvement, and ensure services are delivered in line with statutory responsibilities and best practice.

You will play a key role in helping Lancashire achieve its vision that:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Family Safeguarding team.
  • Manage complex safeguarding cases including child protection, pre-proceedings and court work.
  • Oversee case allocation, assessment quality, and workload management.
  • Ensure statutory duties and performance targets are met.
  • Provide effective supervision, support and development for staff.
  • Build strong multi-agency partnerships across Children's Services, Health, Probation and Substance Misuse Services.
  • Monitor service performance and implement improvement plans where required.
  • Promote positive outcomes for children, young people, carers and families.
  • Manage resources effectively and contribute to service planning and development. 

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • CQSW, DipSW, BA Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
  • Management qualification or significant management training.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' management or leadership experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Experience managing complex safeguarding services and statutory social work functions.
  • Strong track record of leading teams and delivering service improvements.
  • Experience managing child protection investigations, care proceedings, and risk assessments.
  • Experience of multi-agency partnership working.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent leadership and people management abilities.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding frameworks and inspection standards.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in safeguarding practice.
