If you've ever wondered what a seawolf is, Stony Brook University (SBU) might be the place for you. Home of the SBU Seawolves, the university was established by New York State in 1957 and is one of four university centers in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It has an enrollment of about 25,000 students, including some 3,300 graduate students. SBU offers about 140 undergraduate majors and minors, more than 100 master's degree programs, 40 doctoral programs, and more than 30 graduate certificate programs at about a dozen colleges and schools. The student teacher ratio at SBU is 18:1.
