SITAR ARTS CENTER: CAMP SITAR
SUMMER CAMP MANAGER



What We Do  


Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training. 



What You’ll Do   


Sitar Arts Center is seeking a wonderful, experienced Camp Manager to work with a range of young people to support Camp Sitar this June – August 2026.   




Camp Sitar provides visual, performing, digital art, and movement classes over six weeks to kindergarten - 8th graders in our full-day program.    


  


The Camp Manager will coordinate daily scheduling (camp, teaching faculty, summer staff, student classes), manage class transitions, and oversee camp events and activities The Camp Manager plays an important role in making the summer an amazing experience for each Sitar Camper. As Camp Manager, you will work directly with children in grades K–8, teaching artists, youth interns, parents, and Sitar staff members. 


 


Responsibilities Include   



  • Oversee daily class schedules and proactively resolve operational challenges, including teacher absences, lateness, and classroom resource needs



  • Oversee student check-ins and check-outs and camp transitions, including morning meetings, class changes, lunch, recess, breaks, afternoon reflection, and dismissal



  • Lead camp activities, field trips, performances, and exhibitions



  • Supervise students throughout camp sessions and facilitate clear communication between students and staff



  • Mentor summer staff, which includes the faculty and the camp counselors, providing ongoing support and guidance



  • Collect and maintain incident reports for all students 



  • Coordinate pre- and post-camp logistics, including supply storage and facility preparation for summer

  • Attend weekly meetings with supervisor, Director of Community Arts Education, and report on camp updates




What You’ll Earn      
Pay is hourly, $28-30 per hour, based on experience.    



When You'll Work


This 9-week position is seasonal, with a start date of June 8 and will run through August 5, 2026.  The Camp Manager will work 40 hours a week, scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Pre/Post Camp hours will be 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Camp Program Dates are June 22 – July 31.




Other required work dates will be provided before employment acceptance. All required work dates are paid, including:  



  • Classroom Management Training 



  • Camp Orientations and Training/Camp Preparation

Key Qualifications and Experience       



  • Two or more years of experience working with children and youth    



  • Interest and/or experience in arts and/or arts education    



  • Previous experience working in a camp setting   



  • Two or more summers working in a camp setting
     


Preferred Qualifications and Experience  



  • Bilingual - Spanish/English   



  • Knowledge, practice, and experience with differentiated instruction, equity, accessibility, and anti-racism practices
