Job Description - 2026-2027 Dean of Students - Broadway


Title: Dean of Students

Purpose of Position: To effectively coordinate behavioral services, implement and maintain school directed discipline procedures and documentation, and support the cultural success of all students

Employment Status: Full-time Reporting

Reports to: Principal 

Location: Assigned campus

Essential Functions

The Dean of Students at Audubon Schools will serve as a vital member of the school's administrative team, fostering a positive and supportive school culture conducive to academic and personal growth. This individual will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students in grades 4th through 8th.

Responsibilities:

Student Discipline and Behavior Management:
  • Implement and enforce school policies regarding student behavior and discipline.
  • Address student misconduct promptly, fairly, and consistently, while also considering individual circumstances.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and parents to develop and implement behavior intervention plans when necessary.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in conflict resolution and social-emotional development.
  • Complete and maintain all behavioral/discipline documentation including LDOE, internal databases, PowerSchool, etc.
Attendance and Truancy Monitoring:
  • Monitor student attendance and punctuality, identifying trends and addressing issues in collaboration with parents and relevant staff.
  • Implement strategies to reduce absenteeism and tardiness, including proactive outreach and support for at-risk students and families.
Student Support and Advocacy:
  • Serve as an advocate for students, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students facing personal, academic, or social challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to develop and implement individualized support plans for students with diverse needs.
Community Engagement:
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and community members, serving as a liaison between the school and the broader community.
  • Organize and facilitate parent workshops, family engagement events, and community outreach initiatives to promote a sense of belonging and partnership.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding behavior interventions and disciplinary actions.
Crisis Management and Emergency Response:
  • Develop and implement emergency response protocols in collaboration with school leadership and staff.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention strategies and provide support to students, staff, and families during challenging situations or emergencies.
Professional Development and Training:
  • Stay abreast of best practices in student discipline, behavior management, and adolescent development through ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on effective discipline strategies, conflict resolution techniques, and fostering positive school culture.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Teaching experience required
  • Previous experience working in a school setting, preferably in a leadership or student support role.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, behavior management techniques, and restorative justice practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and social-emotional learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and educational technology platforms.

PREFERRED

  • Knowledge and experience with NOLA-PS/LDOE behavior plans and/or SEL initiatives
