Job Description - 7-12th Grade Biology Teacher

About Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS):
Located in Malden, MA, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School was founded in 1998 and serves over 1,600 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Students in Grades K–12 attend school in uniform and benefit from 200 instructional days per year, with a school day that is 60 minutes longer than that of traditional public schools. Position: Biology Teacher (Grades 7–12)

Job Summary:
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Biology Teacher to join our Grades 7–12 science team. The teacher will deliver high-quality instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and, where applicable, the internationally respected International Baccalaureate (IB) program offered at the high school level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a comprehensive program of study aligned with Core Knowledge and IB curricula (where applicable).

  • Teach five daily science classes, with a focus on Biology.

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons with clearly defined learning objectives.

  • Regularly assess student progress and provide timely feedback through progress reports and report cards.

  • Administer standardized tests as directed by the Science Department Chair and school leadership.

  • Collaborate regularly with science colleagues and the Department Chair on curriculum, assessments, instructional strategies, and data analysis.

  • Maintain a structured and disciplined classroom environment in accordance with the school's assertive discipline model.

  • Attend staff meetings and actively participate in professional development sessions.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Science Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or a related field required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound instructional decisions.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Understanding of and ability to comply with school policies, as well as local, state, and federal education regulations.

  • Experience assessing student performance and preparing detailed academic reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Expertise in science content and pedagogy, including familiarity with related laws and best practices.

  • Ability to develop and deliver lessons that meet school objectives and address diverse student needs.

  • Must complete applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment.

Supervision and Evaluation:
This position reports to the Science Department Chair and is subject to an annual performance review. It is a yearly appointment.
