About the Indiana Educational Resource Center (IERC):

The Indiana Educational Resource Center is located at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.  The Center serves as Indiana's statewide repository for accessible educational materials.  We partner with the School and the Indiana Department of Education to support Local Education Agencies, educators, and service providers by acquiring, managing, and distributing accessible instructional materials and resources for eligible students throughout Indiana.  We work collaboratively with schools, accessible media producers, state agencies, and educational partners to ensure timely access to instructional materials in Braille, large print, digital, and other accessible formats.

 

Role Overview:

The Accessible Materials Librarian supports the acquisition, cataloging, inventory management, reporting, order fulfillment, and distribution of accessible instructional materials for use by Local Education Agencies throughout Indiana.  You will work on a team that maintains library and inventory records, processes requests for accessible materials, provides research and technical assistance, and supports statewide services related to the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) Federal Quota Program and the National Instructional Materials Access Center (NIMAC).  Working under the direction of the IERC Director, the Librarian collaborates with educators, service providers, accessible media producers, and partner agencies to support access to instructional materials across the state.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

 


A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities include:



  • Maintain the IERC library management system and related records.

  • Review and process student registrations and requests for accessible instructional materials.

  • Catalog, track, retrieve, and distribute specialized educational materials.

  • Process special orders for braille, large print, digital, and other accessible instructional materials.

  • Maintain inventory, acquisitions, and circulation records.

  • Conduct research using online databases and information resources.

  • Provide technical assistance to educators, digital rights managers, and other stakeholders.

  • Assist with APH Federal Quota and NIMAC-related activities and recordkeeping.

  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, website content, and other program documentation.

  • Communicate with accessible media producers and partner organizations to support timely delivery of materials.

  • Participate in professional development activities and ongoing learning.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Required credentials:



  • Master’s degree in library (MLS) or information science (MLIS) from an accredited college or university.


 


Preferred knowledge:



  • Familiarity with accessible instructional materials and services for individuals who are blind, have low vision, or have print disabilities.

  • Familiarity with APH, NIMAC, Federal Quota, or related accessibility programs.

  • Familiarity with accessible instructional materials and services for individuals who are blind, have low vision, or have print disabilities.

  • Familiarity with Braille alphabet and numeric system.


 


Additional qualifications:



  • Knowledge of library and information science principles and practices.

  • Basic research and information retrieval skills.

  • Ability to locate, evaluate, organize, and disseminate information from a variety of sources and formats.

  • Ability to learn and use library management systems, databases, and technology tools.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Experience collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting data.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to provide responsive and professional customer service.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, educators, service providers, partner agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and virtual environment.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple assignments within established deadlines.

  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.


 


Certification by the Indiana State Library and Historical Board as an LC3 must be obtained within six months of hire.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
