Schedule: 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Central Time
Anticipated Starting Pay: $18–$23 per hour, based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and internal equity.

About the Role

South Shore Insurance Agency (SSIA) is looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused Accounting & Customer Service Specialist to join our team!  This position combines day-to-day accounting responsibilities with customer service and administrative support. The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, helping customers, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.  We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates effectively, and thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

What You'll Do

Accounting Responsibilities

• Process and record customer payments, deposits, and other financial transactions.


• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable.


• Reconcile accounts and research discrepancies to ensure accuracy.


• Assist with invoicing, billing, and payment follow-ups.


• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.


• Support month-end accounting activities and reporting.


• Work closely with the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate processing.

Customer Service & Agency Support

• Answer incoming calls and emails, providing friendly and professional service.


• Assist customers with general policy inquiries, billing questions, and payment processing.


• Support policy servicing activities, including changes, renewals, and documentation.


• Coordinate with insurance carriers and internal team members to resolve customer requests.


• Maintain accurate customer and policy information in agency management systems.


• Provide general administrative support to keep daily agency operations running efficiently.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, billing, or a related financial role.


• Customer service experience with strong communication and interpersonal skills.


• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.


• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize deadlines.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.


• Comfortable learning new systems and technology.


• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team.


• Insurance agency experience is a plus, but not required.


• Experience with accounting software or agency management systems is a plus.
