Accounting Compliance Manager (Hybrid Remote)

What You Do

The Accounting Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the administrative coordination and compliance processes associated with tax filings, tax payments, registrations, information returns, and annual audits for EJF-managed associations. The role coordinates with external tax preparers and auditors, internal teams, and client boards to ensure required filings and other compliance obligations are completed accurately and timely.

Federal & State Tax Returns

Manage and track federal and state tax filing requirements and deadlines for managed associations

• Coordinate the preparation and filing of tax returns and extensions, including tracking filings prepared internally and by external tax preparers
• Facilitate required signatures, authorizations, and submission of tax forms and returns to the appropriate governmental agencies
• Maintain complete and accurate records of filed returns, extensions, confirmations, and supporting documentation
• Monitor filing status and follow up with internal and external stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met

State Tax Account Access & Registration

• Pursue, register, establish and maintain state tax accounts for all clients 

Personal & Real Property Tax Filings

• Prepare and file annual personal property tax returns for all associations in jurisdictions requiring such filing
• Support real property tax payment processing for all state and local authorities

Information Returns (1096 / 1098 / 1099)

• Compile and maintain databases for annual 1098 and 1099 reports
• Prepare and send 1098, 1099, and 1096 reports

Association Onboarding & Offboarding Support

• Oversee the performance of onboarding and offboarding tasks assigned to the team

Board & Staff Support

• Respond to Board and staff inquiries on tax and audit matters

Audit Completion

• Manage the team's completion and management of annual audits for clients

Qualifications 

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• 3+ years of experience in tax administration, accounting operations, audit coordination, or related fields
• Experience with community association management (HOA/condo) accounting is a strong plus
• Experience managing recurring tax filings with regulatory deadlines, or other compliance-related processes across multiple entities or accounts
• Experience coordinating with external tax preparers, auditors, government agencies, or other professional service providers

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines across many accounts simultaneously
• Clear written communication skills for correspondence with boards, tax agencies, and internal staff
• Ability to research and resolve discrepancies independently, escalating when needed
• Working knowledge of federal and state tax filing requirements and deadlines for corporate/association entities is helpful
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software; experience with Vantaca a plus
• Familiarity with IRS and state tax agency online portals (e.g., EFTPS, DC MyTax, Maryland tax portal)
• Ability to lead, delegate, monitor work quality, and hold assigned resources accountable for deadlines and deliverables
• Ability to communicate effectively with client boards, internal stakeholders, auditors, tax preparers, and governmental agencies

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Seasonal workload increases are expected around key filing deadlines (e.g., tax season, the June 1 FP-31 deadline, and 1098/1099/1096 filing periods).
