North Platte Valley Medical Center is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic individual to assist in the daily planning and organizing of activity programs for North Platte Valley Medical Center Residents.
POSITION COMPLEXITIES
This person is responsible for directing the activity program to meet the residents' social, recreational, physical, educational, and spiritual needs by using meaningful activity. The Activity Coordinator provides therapeutic activities to residents that are designed to meet their interests to improve the psychosocial well-being of each resident. The position also is responsible for assessment, program development, performance improvement, budget development/monitoring, and personnel management. The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, and weekends and holidays.
PERFOMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Assessment and Planning
Appropriately assess and re-assess the patients’/residents’ activity interests, needs and concerns through observation, conversation, and with written information.
Set up patient/resident care plans with identified problems, goals and approaches.
Write patient/resident progress notes accurately, neatly and in a timely manner, and in accordance with Hospital and departmental documentation standards/regulations.
Record patient/resident codings/changes and other necessary information accurately and promptly.
Plan/choose patient/resident activities with creativity and variety.
Assist with writing unplanned events or changes to scheduled events on appropriate calendars/notices. Notify other departments/nursing units as necessary.
Assists with obtaining necessary equipment and supplies and provides for their accessibility through organized storage. Maintains Activities space in a clean and orderly manner that appears “homelike” and is safe for the residents, including proper placement of furniture and orderly storage of equipment and supplies in drawers, cupboards, closets, etc. Performs additional cleaning tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
Supervisory and Administrative Responsibilities
Conduct staff meetings to convey management/department objectives and explain/discuss how policies and procedures will be implemented.
Instruct staff in changes in regulations/standards and adjusting services accordingly to continue to comply with those regulations/standards.
Train and advise staff by conferring with them, observing, aiding, and instructing them, and identifying areas of improvement in work methods, documentation, and techniques to ensure optimal performance.
Plan and implement activities to develop and maintain high employee morale and motivation to enhance work performance.
Assist in preparing department budget for supplies, equipment, and personnel needs to ensure that programs and services will have what is necessary for quality performance.
Contributes to the facility’s efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care through participation in the following:
Gathers data from assigned residents to complete and update Activities Assessments and Care Plans and attends Care Plan meetings as requested.
Serves as a member of any specified Committee as requested.
Attends mandatory in-services and completes all facility-required training and skills competency.
Resident Care and Involvement
Plans the calendar with appropriate, age-related patient/resident activities both in large and small groups or using one-to-one treatments. Emphasis, should be placed on activities the resident is interested in. Frequent activity sessions occur in/with:
Gross-motor exercises
Activities of daily living
Arts and crafts
Leisure
Audio-visual
Reality orientation
Bedside/sensory
Other
Attend interdisciplinary conferences concerning the patients/residents. Discusses and assists with group problem solving. Brings back and shares appropriate patient/resident information with other Activity staff so they, too, may change how they work with the patient/resident.
Assist in planning, coordinating, selecting, driving and/or escorting patients/residents on van rides and other outings.
Assist in planning and coordinating community/social for the patients/residents (i.e. Christmas party, etc).
Report to the charge nurse, EC Nurse Manager, or Director of Nursing, any improper occurrences pertaining to the care of patients/residents.
Other Duties In addition to the key duties and responsibilities, this position may be assigned to: Assisting with opening and closing the Activity area, changing daily schedules, calendars and notices, answering phone, accounting for petty cash and perform other related duties as assigned. For certain positions, may operate a motor vehicle.
PHYSICAL, AND ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds
Ability to push residents in wheelchairs up to 50+ pounds
Stooping/Bending: 200+ times a day for brief periods
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent
Work Experience:One year of work experience as an Activities Coordinator which involved the planning, assessing, and coordinating a comprehensive Activity Program, and budget preparation. One of work experience in a supervisory role, preferred. Experience in a health care facility providing therapeutic activities to individuals, as either volunteer or paid staff, preferred.
