Job Description Summary:
 

The Adjunct Faculty member in the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Program is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in graduate-level courses that prepare students for professional practice as marriage and family therapists. Faculty members are expected to facilitate student learning through effective teaching, engagement, mentoring, and assessment practices that align with program, institutional, and accreditation standards.

Adjunct faculty are responsible for creating a positive learning environment for students in accordance with the educational objectives of the course and implementing the policies identified in the course syllabus to ensure the successful achievement of course objectives.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach assigned graduate-level Marriage and Family Therapy courses in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
• Develop and maintain course content consistent with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
• Facilitate engaging classroom discussions and experiential learning activities.
• Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on assignments, projects, and examinations.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
• Support student success through academic mentoring and professional guidance.
• Utilize the institution's learning management system and instructional technologies.
• Collaborate with program faculty and administration regarding curriculum, assessment, and student concerns.
• Demonstrate commitment to ethical practice, cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Adhere to all institutional policies, procedures, and professional standards.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of marriage and family therapy theories, clinical interventions, and systemic practice.
• Ability to teach and engage graduate students in diverse learning environments.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to integrate technology into teaching and learning.
• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered instruction and academic excellence.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and evaluate student performance effectively.
• Knowledge of COAMFTE accreditation standards and current trends in the MFT profession preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Commitment to ethical practice as outlined by the AAMFT Code of Ethics.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from a regionally accredited institution.
• Current licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or eligibility for licensure in the state.
• Minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate clinical experience in marriage and family therapy.
• Experience teaching, supervising, training, or mentoring adult learners.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a closely related field.
• AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation or Approved Supervisor Candidate status.
• Experience teaching graduate-level MFT courses.
• Experience in online or hybrid instruction.
• Familiarity with COAMFTE accreditation standards and outcomes assessment processes.
• Experience in clinical supervision of marriage and family therapy trainees.

Work Environment:

Office Location: Sacramento Campus – Onsite

  • This is an onsite position based in Sacramento, requiring regular in-office presence to support daily operations, collaboration, and student or team engagement.
  • Work is performed primarily on campus in a dynamic academic environment, with direct interaction across multidisciplinary teams.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person, video and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

Pay Range:

Pay Range for Faculty Based on teaching assignment, a reasonable estimate for this position is between $600 - $8000.
