The Department of Communication, Film and Journalism at St. Joseph’s University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach Multimedia Journalism, a foundational course in audio-visual storytelling in person at our Hawk Hill campus in Philadelphia. This course introduces students to the practice and ethics of multimedia journalism across audio, video, and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will bring both professional journalism experience and a commitment to undergraduate teaching.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging in-person lectures, workshops, and hands-on production assignments
Instruct students in audio, video, and multimedia storytelling techniques
Provide guidance on field reporting, interviewing, and ethical journalism practices
Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback
Support students in developing technical proficiency and critical media literacy
Holding regular office hours.
Reporting mid-semester and final grades electronically.
Provide support and guidance to students
Instruct an assigned course providing syllabi and other instructional materials
Use of university learning management systems to deliver instruction
Minimum Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Professional experience in journalism (broadcast, digital, or multimedia)
Experience working with DSLR cameras, audio recorders, microphones, and mobile journalism tools
Proficiency in audio and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or similar)
Familiarity with audio-visual storytelling formats and newsroom practices
Ability to teach foundational production skills and concepts clearly
Preferred
Master's Degree
Prior college-level teaching experience
Physical and Other Requirements
May require standing for long periods of time
May require talking for long periods of time
May require carrying course materials
