QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida.

  • Acute Care, Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family Nurse Practitioner board certification will be considered for APRNs.

  • National certification required for PAs.

  • Prior experience in oncology, radiation oncology, or complex medical specialties strongly preferred.

  • Experience with symptom management, urgent oncology presentations, or multidisciplinary oncology care is favorable.

  • Highly motivated new graduates may be considered for an APP fellowship program to support transition to practice.

 


JOB SUMMARY — Radiation Oncology APP

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive care to patients with oncologic diagnoses within the Radiation Oncology service line across both ambulatory and inpatient settings. The APP will practice both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver evidence-based care focused on treatment planning, symptom management, health promotion, and coordination throughout the radiation therapy continuum. All TGH team members are responsible for performing job duties in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

RESPONSIBILITIES — Radiation Oncology

  • Conduct ambulatory (clinic) evaluations for new and established patients undergoing or being considered for radiation therapy, including thorough history, physical examination, and treatment readiness assessment.

  • Perform inpatient consultations for patients with oncologic conditions requiring radiation oncology evaluation, including urgent and emergent indications.

  • Collaborate with attending radiation oncologists to develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans.

  • Participate in simulation appointments and treatment-related procedures as appropriate to APP scope.

  • Provide pre-treatment and post-treatment education, counseling, and management of oncologic and radiation-related symptoms.

  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams including medical oncology, surgical oncology, palliative care, nursing, and ancillary services.

  • Interpret and evaluate diagnostic and laboratory data to inform treatment decisions in accordance with departmental protocols.

  • Identify and communicate changes in patient condition, barriers to care, or complexities requiring escalation to promote optimal outcomes.

  • Demonstrate autonomous clinical decision-making while functioning collaboratively within the Radiation Oncology team.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates current knowledge and competency in oncology and radiation therapy principles, evidence-based practice, and symptom management standards in both outpatient and hospital settings.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively across dynamic inpatient and clinic environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to support complex care discussions.

  • Exemplary customer service skills and conflict-resolution abilities to support patients and families navigating cancer care.
