Job Description - Aircraft Painter I

JOB SUMMARY:


Performs foundational paint applications for overall exterior aircraft surfaces and removable parts; independently and consistently performs advanced paint preparation operations for overall exterior aircraft surfaces and removable parts to DFJ quality standards with low to no supervision and low to no discrepancies.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):


Obtains/reads/interprets/comprehends process documentation at latest revision to perform task assignments


Locate, Reference, and Utilize Work Orders and Reference Data Using Computer System to Ensure Compliance with Processes, and Accurately Document/Record Traceability Requirements and Process Data


Maintains All Equipment Before, During, and After Use, as Required, and Performs Preventative Maintenance on Equipment as Defined per Process while maintaining a neat, orderly, and safe work environment and cleaning up after each operation / shift.


Inspects Aircraft Non-Sensitive Components before and after masking/unmasking process for interdepartmental transfers as well as Masks/Unmasks Aircraft Non-Sensitive Components and Prepares Aluminum and Composite Substrates for Sealant, Primer, and Paint Application


Consistently Inspects, Masks, Sands, and Unmasks Aircraft Sensitive Zones with Low to No Discrepancies


Applies Pore-Filler to Aircraft and Applies Primer/Surfacer to Aircraft Fuselage, Aircraft tail and parts with Low to No Supervision and Low to No Discrepancies


Masks for Regulatory and Specialty Coatings and Checks Thickness with Minimum Supervision and Minimum Discrepancies


Properly Sets Up Work Area for Aircraft Compliant with All Safety Requirements and assists in aircraft movement.


Mixes Sealant, Conversion Coatings, Primers, Surfacers, Etc… per Processes with No Discrepancies and Identifies Defects in top coatings; Masks and Sands to Correct Defects in top coatings


Minimizes Rework Through Proficiency in Preparation and Application while learning to Correct Defects in Top coatings at All Stages of Paint Application


Repeatedly Paints Belly and Aircraft Parts to DFJ Quality Standards with Minimum Supervision and Minimum Discrepancies while learning to paint the aircraft tail, mix top coatings, and prepare stripe design areas for application.


Will learn Paint Inspection Points and to Learns When to Notify QC for Paint Applications and Notifies QC Personnel Prior to Any Applicable Prep Activity to be Performed and corrects any discrepancies identified


Correctly Trains Personnel of Lower Levels of Proper Procedures, Methods, and Techniques per DFJ Processes


NON-PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


2 Years Paint Experience


Advanced Knowledge and Demonstrated Proficiency of Surface Preparation Processes


Working Knowledge of Aircraft Paint Systems


High School Diploma or Equivalent


Ability and Competency To:


Read, Speak, Write, Understand, and Communicate Effectively in English


Follow Written and Verbal Instructions


Perform Repetitive Movements and Work Overhead


Work on Upper Aircraft at Heights Greater Than 10 Feet


Use Mechanical Sanders, Buffers, Spray Equipment, Common Hand Tools, etc.


Pass Pulmonary Function Test; Obtain and Maintain Respirator Clearance Facial Hair Restriction


Obtain and Maintain Aluminum Pretreatment Certification


Ability and Commitment to:


Wear All PPE as Required


Prioritize Safety of Self, Others, and Aircraft


Intermediate Knowledge of How to Use Mechanical Sanders, Buffers, Spray Equipment, Common Hand Tools, etc.


Heightened Attention to Detail


Ability to work with and around various adhesives, paints, resins, and other preparatory paint materials.


ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Aerospace Paint Experience is Preferred


Scissor/Boom Lift Certification


Familiarity with LEAN Manufacturing and Quality Assurance Principles


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Climate-Controlled \Hangars, with Occasional Work Outside


Involves Exposure to Chemical and Dust Levels Set by OSHA Standards


Lift/Hold/Carry/Push/Pull 50 Pounds With/Without Reasonable Accommodation for Intermittent / 25 lbs. for extended Periods


Physical/Muscular Dexterity To:


o  Walk/Climb/Stand/Kneel/Crouch/Work overhead for Extended Periods While Working on Aircraft


o  Repeatedly Ascend/Descend Scaffolds, Ladders, Steps, Stands, and Other Related Equipment With/Without Reasonable Accommodation


Complies with OSHA and Company Safety Standards and procedures.


Compensation and Benefits 


The compensation for this position typically falls between $22.00 and $25.00 per hour.  This position is eligible for overtime.  This position may be eligible for shift differential.  Note, the final compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of relevant experience, Falcon-specific experience, relevant education/certifications, geographic location, and shift.
