What You'll Do
As a member of our network, you will be matched with opportunities to teach ASL or blended-ASL to K-12 students at schools, buildings, and communities across Washington DC. These teaching opportunities will be for terms that could last anywhere from 6 weeks to 18 weeks. As an after school instructor, you'll have the following responsibilities:
Develop age-appropriate American Sign Language curriculum for after-school students
Lead weekly in-person classes with enthusiasm and expertise
Establish a well-structured and lively classroom that keeps students engaged
Foster a positive, supportive, and encouraging learning environment for students of varying skill levels
Build connections with students in a warm and inclusive environment
Track student growth and offer positive, helpful feedback
Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to teach
Create a memorable experience for the children in your class
Who You Are
A fun, enthusiastic, adaptable instructor, with experience teaching school age children, and who:
- Has subject matter expertise in ASL in blended classrooms (English-only, ASL-only, and Bilingual classrooms)
- Has a passion and skill for building hands-on projects with kids
- Has excitement, joy, and passion for both teaching kids and personal development/learning
- Knows how to create a fun, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Brings your own voice and creativity to each class you teach
- Is cooperative, supportive, flexible
- Is dependable, proactive, and thrives when given autonomy … and also appreciates support and clear expectations
$90 - $120 an hour
Teachers in the Togetherhood network are paid per class, either flat rate or per-student (determined by the partner school). This is contracted, supplemental 1099 work. There is a separate materials budget for teachers to use for classes requiring one.

What to Expect
- If your resume is a fit, we’ll reach out to set up a screening call on Google Meet
- Candidates advancing from screenings will have a second video interview, in which we will ask you to share a sample lesson plan
- The final step of the process is onboarding into our platform, ready to accept classes!
