Job Description and Responsibilities
This is a full-time, on-site role as a American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) serving a school located in Columbia, TN.
The American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) will be responsible for providing ASL services to students in the classroom setting and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.
Job Details
Full-time school-based opportunity with a 37.5-hour weekly schedule
2026–2027 academic year (August 2026 through May 2027)
Fully on-site, in-person position serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grade
Provide services across two school campuses within the district
Deliver individualized student services while collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success
Participate in evaluations, educational planning, progress monitoring, and other assigned professional responsibilities
Guaranteed paid hours include direct services, documentation, report writing, planning, meetings, and administrative responsibilities
Ongoing collaboration and support provided by both the partnering school district and the TheraPeds Partners team
Manageable workload designed to promote quality services and work-life balance
Competitive compensation of $45–$55+ per hour, with estimated weekly earnings of approximately $1,800–$2,062+
Requirements
American Sign Language Interpretation Certification
EIPA score (3.5+)
Passing written test
Documentation submitted to CDE
Fluency in ASL and English
Schools expect strong receptive and expressive ASL skills and the ability to interpret classroom instruction and student interactions accurately.
RID certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
Associate or bachelor’s degree, preferred
Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or ASL-English interpreting degree
Experience interpreting in K-12 classrooms
Knowledge of IDEA and IEP processes
Background check and fingerprinting
Ability to support students throughout the school day
Organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications
Physical Requirements
Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
