Application Engineer - Crushing/Aggregates

ICM Solutions is a well-established, multi-state organization with a strong regional footprint and a leading reputation for delivering exceptional equipment and service solutions across the industrial, crushing, and mining markets.  When a customer tells us they need 300 tons an hour of a particular product out of a particular pit, someone has to decide what that plant looks like and then stand behind the number. That is this job.

The Application Engineer owns the technical solution on turnkey and engineer-to-order projects: the circuit, the equipment selection, the layout of the critical transfer points, and the throughput we commit to in writing. You are there at the beginning when the promise is made and there at the end when it gets tested, and you are accountable for the distance between the two. The Project Manager owns whether the job lands on time and on budget. You own whether it works.

What you'll do

• Characterize the feed: gradation, moisture, abrasiveness, and the gap between what the customer says they have and what they actually have
• Design the circuit: flowsheet, mass balance, circulating loads, open versus closed circuit decisions
• Select and size equipment: crushers, screens, feeders, conveyors, and surge capacity
• Own layout and transition design on critical scope, including material trajectory, drop heights, chute and hood geometry, and anything feeding or discharging a guaranteed piece of equipment
• Coordinate with equipment vendors and evaluate proposed alternates
• Commit throughput and product specifications, and write the qualifiers that go around them
• Write the technical scope of supply in language that holds up commercially
• Provide the technical basis for the estimate and lead the pursuit as quote owner
• Act as technical authority through detailed design, with veto over substitutions
• Commission the plant, run performance tests, and troubleshoot when the numbers do not hit

What you need

• Five or more years in aggregates, mining, or bulk material handling as an application, process, or plant engineer. Operating experience on the producer side counts and is often better than supplier-side experience alone.
• Demonstrated ability to size and select crushing and screening equipment against a stated feed and product specification
• Fluency with gradation analysis, mass balance, circulating load, and screen sizing
• You have committed a throughput number to a customer and been on site when it was tested
• Ability to write a technical scope of supply that a project manager can hold a customer to
• Willingness to deliver unwelcome technical news to a customer or to our own sales team
• Willingness to travel and to be on site through commissioning

• Exposure to multiple equipment manufacturers rather than a single product line
• Capital project estimating experience
• Hands-on commissioning and performance testing history
• CEMA conveyor and transfer point design familiarity
• Enough structural and fabrication awareness to know what a layout decision costs in steel

About the Work Environment

• This is an on-site job at our facility in Murray, Utah.
• Travel roughly 10-30%; heavier during commissioning windows.
• Site work means active quarries and plants: PPE, ladders, elevated structures, and dust.
