God’s WORLD News
Art Director
For families and classrooms who are making disciples, God’s WORLD News is the trustworthy
source of coverage of current events and trends that builds news literacy in children and adults.
Available in print and digital formats, our age-appropriate content allows young people to
discover, explore, and discern how God is at work in the world, through stories that are factual,
easy to understand, and reported from a position of biblical objectivity and reverent wonder. The
God’s WORLD News publications report on current events and trends in the news across a broad
spectrum of topics, with a focus on developing awareness, responsibility, and discernment while
connecting the stories of today’s world with God’s purposeful plan of redemption.
Discipleship is a lifelong journey, and God’s WORLD News helps students learn to live out the
gospel in all areas of life as from a young age they become better equipped to engage with, pray
for, and serve others with confidence and hope.
With that end in mind, the GWN team art director will design dynamic and engaging content
(primarily print, with some digital) for a young audience of children from preschool through
young teens.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create visually compelling designs in our three magazines (six issues per edition per
year)
• Carefully manage the two-month-long workflow per issue from start to finish
• Supervise staff illustrator to assist in development of art and graphics
• Supervise contracted graphic designer to assist in handling workload
• Work closely with the editorial team to plan digital and implement interactive content for our website
• Attend weekly editorial planning meetings and contribute to selection discussion there
• Attend other departmental and company-wide meetings on an as-needed basis
Possible future expansion of this role may include
• On-camera presence, hosting or participating in co-hosting some video productions
• Interactive/app/digital games development appropriate to our audience
Preferred traits, experience, and skills:
• Robust Christian world and life view
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, or other related field
• A minimum two years experience as a graphic designer, preferably including print
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
• Fluency with Google Docs and Dropbox
• Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to create original, unique designs that appeal to a
range of ages
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with the editorial team
• Excellent time management and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
• Diligent, organized, and detail-oriented
• Able to work efficiently at a regular, demanding pace to meet deadlines
• Teachable spirit, with a willingness to be edited and take feedback
• Team player personality, able to recognize the value of others’ experience while
submitting one’s own in a dynamic group setting
• Awareness of current events and today’s world trends and issues
• Experience working with children and teens and/or for a children’s publication is a strong
plus
This position reports to the GWN executive director. The position is full-time and includes
access to company benefits. Proximity to or ability to relocate to the Asheville, North Carolina,
area is a very strong positive. This position is a U.S. based position only.
