Art Gallery Manager& Curator

The Beekman Gallery Manager & Art Curator primarily works out of the Beekman Gallery location and will be required to go to other program sites as needed. The primary duties of the Beekman Gallery Manager/ Art Curator include day to day gallery operations, including art classes and managing the online store. The curator portion of this job will be responsible for all art shows and exhibit selections, preparation, and cataloging of all display ready art throughout the agency. They will work in conjunction with the Guilderland Gallery Manager and Art Program Assistant Director for the pricing and distribution of all work done by LRC affiliated students. This individual will also be able to assist the Guilderland Gallery Manager/ Creative Projects with special projects as assigned and as needed. This position entails a mix of art instruction, staff supervision, sales and marketing, business plan development and project management. They must have the ability to work in tandem with other agencies, municipalities, and businesses for promotion of the work done and the advocacy of our program. They will be expected to represent Living Resources at community events, Chamber of Commerce groups, awards presentations, and other community affairs associated with Living Resources Art Program. They will also be responsible for the schedule of any supervised staff working out of Beekman. 

Oversight of the Beekman Art Gallery:

• Responsible for preparation, assembly, selection and rotation of art pieces and displays at shows in all Living Resources galleries as well as offices, and any other art shows that Living Resources is involved with.
• Support students to mat, frame, stretch canvas, and complete exhibit artwork in time for the art exhibit deadline.
• Assist with the transport of artwork to each exhibit.
• Assist with the take-down, tracking, and storage of artwork at the end of each art exhibit.
• Create and maintain an inventory tracker for art being used/planned to be used in upcoming shows, events in gallery exhibits.
• Acting as community and agency liaison i.e. networking, possible committees both within the agency, and in the local community
• Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
• Communicate on an ongoing basis with the Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) to ensure program quality and student safety. 
• Hiring, training, and supervision of staffing at the gallery
• Responsible for helping with special events, art shows, paint and sips, etc.
• Instruction of classes, i.e. group/supplemental/without walls art classes, as well as private community art classes for people outside of the IDD population
• Facilitate art sales and ensure finance has up to date records on sales and addresses to ensure timely payments to artists.
• Working together with other programs within the agency i.e. DCOP, pre-voc, as well as, job coaching to support the gallery and other projects as needed.
• Scheduling of staff and volunteers with regards to the gallery and agency projects
• Report all accidents, illness, behavioral or emotional problems involving the students to the appropriate person(s) and include written documentation in a timely manner.
• Follow all incident, emergency, and safety procedures and regulations.
• Provide occasional support during events and shows outside of scheduled working hours (as needed).
• Provide transportation of people we support with and/or without gait issues. This may include assisting people we support from wheelchairs and assisted walking devices into vehicles. Must be able to drive in all types of weather, to accommodate weekly schedules and pick-ups / drop-offs in a manner which ensures safety of the people we support at all times (as needed).

• One year’s experience in management
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
• Background in all aspects of art, including; art instruction, printing, matting, and framing
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Strong project management skills
• Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation required
• Ability to interact with community leaders and gallery directors to help coordinate art shows and events whilst including Living Resources in overall community involvement

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree – preference for studies in Human Services/Art/Business
• Strong artistic background with proven record of art instruction and production.
• Knowledge of the art community
• Background in working with people with IDD/TBI population or related experience
