Job Description - Assembly Technician

Location: San Carlos, CA

We’re building Portals — custom communication pods deployed in libraries and public spaces to expand access to essential digital services. These private, technology-enabled spaces allow people in underserved communities to attend telehealth appointments, take exams, access government services, and connect securely online when they otherwise wouldn’t have a safe or reliable environment.

Every Portal we assemble becomes part of real community infrastructure. Build quality, reliability, and attention to detail directly impact the people relying on these spaces every day.

We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Assembly Technician to support the full build cycle.

This is not a single-station production-line job. You’ll work across every stage of assembly — from receiving components to building, wiring, finishing, and preparing units for shipment.

You should be comfortable working with your hands, following structured build processes, and producing consistent, high-quality work at production volume.

About your role at Ready ⚡️

  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments and components

  • Perform incoming quality control checks on parts and materials

  • Assemble enclosure structures and mechanical components

  • Measure, drill, cut, and modify parts for custom fitment

  • Install AV equipment including screens, cameras, speakers, and peripherals

  • Perform wiring, connector installation, and cable terminations

  • Apply PDLC privacy film and other finishing elements requiring precision and care

  • Test assemblies and verify system readiness before shipment

  • Package and crate finished units safely for transport

  • Maintain organized workspaces and follow shop safety procedures

  • Support daily production targets (current goal: ~2 completed units per day)

A bit about you

  • Experience in AV installation, electromechanical assembly, hardware build, or similar hands-on technical work

  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, drills, and cutting equipment

  • Familiarity with wiring connectors, cable routing, and terminations

  • Ability to perform incoming QC and identify defects or inconsistencies

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in clean, precise work

  • Ability to follow documented build procedures consistently

  • Comfort working in a production-paced environment

  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new processes

  • Builder mindset - you’d rather build it right than fix it twice

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Example:

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving hands, wrists, and arms for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods during a work shift (up to 8 hours).

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as required to perform assembly and inspection tasks.

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely.

  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient to inspect components, read instrumentation, and respond to alarms or verbal instructions.

  • Work may involve exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, electronics, and varying temperatures typical of a manufacturing or lab environment.

Ready is committed to providing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable state and local laws.

About Ready

  • Creative problem solvers approaching a legacy industry with a new point of view

  • Humble but ambitious, knowledgeable but curious, persistent but not obnoxious

  • Concise and effective in written and spoken communication

  • One team, one dream

About what you get…

  • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity upside; salary range is $90,000-$120,000

  • Competitive (and ever expanding) benefits for employees and dependents

  • Opportunities to learn and grow – all things startups

  • A chance to play a role in defining the roadmap as we pursue a bold vision and and a big goal

  • To get away - we all convene 1-2x a year for [optional, encouraged] retreats

  • We’re actively shaping our benefits program: have a say in which benefits matter to you

  • The charter to realize a market that is set to receive $65 billion in grant funding across the United States
