Job Description - Assistant City Manager - City of Redlands, CA


Nestled in the heart of Southern California’s Inland Empire between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, the City of Redlands blends historic charm, mountain views, citrus heritage, and a vibrant downtown with modern housing, transit-oriented planning, and strong civic pride.  Residents treasure the City’s tree-lined streets, cultural amenities, historic architecture, and abundant parks.  The City encompasses 36.3 square miles and has a diverse population of approximately 73,170. 

The City of Redlands is seeking innovative and enthusiastic local government professionals to serve as their next Assistant City Managers.  The City has two Assistant City Manager positions available due to a promotional opportunity and a forthcoming retirement.  These positions are vital not only to the daily administration of City functions, but as a knowledgeable and active collaborator and member of the Executive Team.  These positions serve as a visible external ambassador, interacting with residents, businesses, community groups, City Council, Commissioners/Committee members and their fellow City staff members.  These individuals will have a proven track record of positive community relations; be innovative and intuitive leaders with the ability to collaboratively and creatively find solutions to address organizational and community challenges; and be able to engage and build relationships with staff, City leaders and the community.  

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public or business administration or a related field.  A Master’s degree is desired.  For degrees obtained outside of the U.S. an official equivalency evaluation is required.  Six years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a municipal government setting, including supervisory responsibilities and administrative project management experience.

The salary range is $239,832 - $294,960, with a competitive benefits package.
