Summary:

The Assistant Coach works directly with the Head Coach to assist in all aspects associated with the operation of a successful NCAA Division I swimming and diving program. Provides instruction to student-athletes to develop their overall athleticism, agility, skills, and understanding of the sport. Assists with recruitment of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach assumes the responsibility of leading and conducting team activities, practices and meets, if the Head Coach is not present.

Essential Functions:

  • In collaboration with the Head Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach, provides general oversight and direction for day-to-day plans, goals, and activities of the swimming program. Assist in teaching fundamentals, techniques, and training procedures to aid in developing a high-quality team. Assist in supervision of all swimming workouts, flexibility, general aerobic conditioning, video review, and weight workout. Assist in preparation of practices and meets, as well as developing a comprehensive seasonal training plan. Responsible for the day-to-day plans, goals and administration of the program related to competitions, workouts, and student-athlete welfare. Leads and conducts all team activities, practices and meets if the Head Coach is not present.

  • Coordinates recruiting efforts of the men’s and women’s swimming program to attract high quality athletes to the program. This includes the evaluation of prospective student-athletes, coordinating all communications, serving as a liaison with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, arranging and planning of visits of student-athletes to the institution, and visiting prospects at their competition sites, schools and homes.

  • Performs daily management and administrative duties of men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs as assigned by the head coach.

  • Assists the head coach in public relations duties in conjunction with the athletic department’s activities as they relate to publicity, alumni development and fund-raising to aid in generating support for the team.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time.

  • 35 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $48,000.00 - $53,000.00 annually.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.

 

Travel Required:

  • Travel locally, regionally and nationally for competition and potentially internationally for recruiting. After hours and weekend work frequently required to attend games and related athletic events.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and expertise in coaching sufficient to assume the duties of a head coach in the event of a head coaches’ absence from the program. Has demonstrated ability to coach, recruit, creating practice plans and game strategies, monitor student’s academic progress and well-being, and run the overall day-to-day operations of the program at the same level as a head coach.  

  • Commitment and ability to maintain and exhibit the highest standards of ethical conduct.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Previous swimming experience at the collegiate or professional level.

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
