Minimum Qualifications:

·       High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

·       Four years’ experience as a DFS employee, a firefighter, a MA Hazardous Materials Technician, or in a fire prevention or fire service leadership position. 

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Ability to lead others or small groups without conflict.

·       Ability to accomplish assigned work with little to no supervision.

·       Proven interpersonal skills and writing skills.

·       Proven computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, email and inventory or similar             database systems.

·       CDL License.

·       Strong communication skills.

The Department of Fire Services (DFS), Hazardous Materials Response Division is recruiting to fill one vacancy at the Stow location. The Assistant Coordinator will oversee the coordination of repair, inspection, and maintenance of approximately 22 Hazardous Materials Response vehicles throughout the Commonwealth. The Assistant Coordinator must be available to work a minimum of 1-2 shifts on average per week and be available to work in the event of an emergency. The primary focus of this position is to oversee the response truck needs of the five Hazardous Materials Response Districts throughout the Commonwealth. This is a part-time, contract position with no benefits. The Hazardous Materials Response Division, within the Department of Fire Services, provides emergency response to municipal departments as the departments deem fit.

 Description of Duties:

·       Coordinates the operational readiness for all vehicles of the Hazardous Materials Division.

·       Oversee the upkeep, delivery, maintenance and repairs of assigned vehicles.

·       Point of contact for the 5 Hazmat Districts, across the division, providing timeline communication and ensuring all vehicle issues are resolved in a timely manner.

·       Responsible for visiting any vehicle to determine the extent of the repair or verify the maintenance needs.

·       Reports truck issues, maintains status board of trucks, and advises the Program Coordinator, Director, and Fleet Manager of any upcoming maintenance and repair issues.

·       Maintains yearly maintenance documentation and ensures D4H (Division Software) is always kept up to date.   

·       Serves in an administrative capacity to support the program coordinator and oversee the successful daily operation of assigned unit.

·       Advises Division Director and/or supervisor on policy, purchasing and personnel.

·       Participates in hiring teams, procurement teams and grant review teams.

·       Distributes work assignments, troubleshoots staffing issues, and schedules assigned personnel.

·       Prepares printed material such as requests for proposals (RFP/RFQ), status reports, accident reports, grant reports or similar material.

·       May be required to work off business hours, when emergencies or incidents occur.

·       Other duties assigned by the program coordinator or Division Director.
