Job Description - Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the nursing department within the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role helps ensure high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and efficient clinical operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assist the DON with day-to-day nursing department operations

Supervise and support nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs

Ensure compliance with federal, state, CMS, and facility regulations

Participate in survey readiness, audits, and quality improvement initiatives

Monitor resident care plans, documentation accuracy, and infection control practices

Assist with staffing coordination, scheduling, and clinical oversight

Provide education, coaching, and mentorship to nursing staff

Address resident and family concerns professionally and promptly

Participate in QAPI and performance improvement programs

Serve as acting DON in the absence of the Director of Nursing

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal resident outcomes

Qualifications:

Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing

Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility or Long-Term Care setting preferred

Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, state survey processes, and long-term care compliance

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
